Does anybody know what is going to happen to yellow haribo gummy bear when you put it to Stanford Linear Particle Accelerator?

I was driving the other day with my friends on 280 and had really interesting discussions about it ...

thanks

THANKS A LOT everybody for great answers !! I wasn't having fun like this for long time.

My theory is that since this is yellow (funny and tasty) gummy bear that he is going to stretch into very think 2-3 miles long spaghetti and will look like squirrel after very long cold winter.

It will become cherry flavour because of the sub atomic particle rearangement! Quarks switching it on to different flavours!

Nothing is going to happen, I'm sorry to say. Even if you broke your gummy bear down to a single molecule (probably sugar) nothing would happen. LINACs accelerate ions, and sugar is a pretty stable molecule. It would just sit there, shedding little gummy bear tears.

If it is in ambient air, it wil oxidize and slowly burn away.

If it is in a vacuum environment, it will slowly be radiolyzed/pyrolyzed into a chunk of charcoal.

Hopefully they won't be shooting any deuterons or heavy ions at it or what's left of it could end up becoming very radioactive due to induced radioactivity!

It probably wouldn't even fit, they are dealing with micrograms of matter in the collision chamber.

Probably would turn into one trillion particles. The real question would be....would it lose its taste?

It'd probably warm up a bit, not much else...
