My cat was well trained at using his litter box. When its not clean enough he goes in one of our restrooms, which I don't blame him. Now he uses the litter, but also urinates on the carpet, even when the box is clean. Can't stand the smell, considering giving him away, but we do love him. Any suggestions on how to stop it?

Hi there are several things you can do
1. Have him checked for bladder/urinary tract infection.
Wth him not using the box half the time that can be your problem. he thinks the litter box is the reason he hurts when he pee's.

2. Get 2 litter boxes, some prefer 2 boxes than one.

3. Change the litter brand.
I had a cat i got from a friend and used the litter she gave me. He started peeing else where. so I changed the litter and he started back in the box after that.

Just remember they have no way to tell us something is wronge so always watch his behavior. Not using the litter box is a major sign something isnt right. So try new litter, extra potty box, and all else fails go to the vet. Up the brand of food if using a lower brand.

I used Unrinary tract care when mine had this issue. I stuck with the same brand so the switch was gentle from the tract care to the same name brand. Fixed her up. This worked for my cat, but might not for yours so try your vet first.

I am answering quickly, so I have not read the other answers. Do not apply *anything* until you have decided if you don't want carpet stains. Even vinegar might be able to set carpet stains, even though it is effective at neutralizing urea (the smelly part of cat pee). Look up bacteria and enzyme solutions. They are the best. I tried enzymes on my soaked King-size mattress. Even they were not enough - I now have to try the bacteria solution. Also, if you need to penetrate into the carpet, they make medical-grade syringes (too fat for drug users) which are also sold as "carpet syringes". However, the syringe I bought turned out to be only 2-1/2" long or so. I don't think that will help me for getting the solution deep into the mattress, since a solution can soak in 2" without help. Hope this helps. One more thing - you might read that a UV light can help you find urine. I got a UV light with a $20 cat urine kit at Wal-Mart. However, this technique only seems to work with flat-out pure, dried urine. Once you have diluted the urine and let it dry, it can still stink but the UV light won't help you locate the boundaries of the stinky spot.

For a while my cat, Kidney, was doing the same thing. Don't give him away !!
Try to move something, (furniture, box, anvil) on the spot where he usually goes.
Also, you might want to put some heavily scented substance on the spot. He's not recognize the scent and will hopefully decide to move on. Best of luck :)

I suggest you make sure this is not a medical problem, when cats do this it is sometimes an indication of a bladder or urinary tract infection. Take him to the vet to outrule that first...then if it is just behavioral you can work on a solution.

i could desire to assert that the neutering of your cat is be responsive to-how precisely discover it impossible to stand as much as is meant to do. He does not have all that "maleness" for loss of a much bigger word happening in him now such as marking territory and wanting out to mate with women folk alongside side the restlessness that includes now not neutering a male cat. he's larger comfortable now and does not have all that male instinct which might advise he might consume slightly greater advantageous than in the past and does not concepts staggering around interior liking to play instead than howling on the window. Neutering purely makes the cat have a much better relaxing existence somewhat if he's interior in any respect situations. I evaluate you're a outstanding domestic dog proprietor that loves his cat very plenty. I evaluate you would be waiting to offer up annoying and furnish your better half back her sanity now. Your cat would be much less under pressure, greater advantageous playful, greater advantageous loving, and an entire larger domestic dog now that he's neutered. My cat picked up slightly weight after neutering too, in spite of if he by using no potential gained fat. He purely likes to consume and sleep slightly greater advantageous than past to is all (much less restlessness). not something to concern approximately.
