Is it different for boys verses girls?

I don't know about boys, since I have only girls. However I'd say they should be becoming more and more rare around 11, and hopefully fully done with before teenage years. I think it all depends on the child though. These kids that come on here and complain about being 16 and getting spanked I have no piety for. I personally wouldn't' use that as a option, since I plan on using the teen years to get them ready for independence and adulthood. However everyone has to do what they think is best for their children.

Good Luck

When your child becomes mature enough to effectively respond to punishment only, there is no need for spanking. It doesn't matter if your child is a girl or boy. The age varies depending on the child. For example, I know a boy that is 18 years old and often acts as if he is 6 or 7 years old, based on the childish and rude behavior he exhibits. I personally know of his father spanking him this past weekend. And guess what, it worked. On the other hand, you may have a child that responds well to punishment at age 4. There is no need for a spanking. Judge your child's maturity level to make that decision.

My son is 12 & he got a spanking a few weeks ago. Spankings in this house are far and few between, but that just makes them all that more effective. Abuse? When most people talk about "spanking" they aren't talking about beating the child bloody. They are talking about a few stiff smacks on the butt.

I was spanked with my mom's hand until I was eleven and then whipped with a belt or jug cord till I was seventeen. It was still an effective punishment at seventeen.

When they quit crying as a result. That can be a while. My dad whipped me at about 14 with a belt and i still cried because it hurt so bad. It was a great punishment though and i am a better man for it. I fully supportive of corporal punishment.

when they move out. spanking shouldn't be used as the only form of punishment, but it's still effective when needed.

When they are old enough to still decide do something bad and "take the beating" for it. For me, this was about 12 or 13.
