What are shiites? What are Sunnis? and why are we involved in their war? If they arent attacking us then why do we still have to be there?

In simple terms, let's just say that the Shiites are Catholics and the Sunnis are Protestants...and let's put them in Ireland.
Get the picture?

We did not intend to get in their war.
We CREATED their war when we invaded Iraq and dismembered the social, political and military infrastructure.

If we cut and run, it could turn into another bloody massacre, just like what happened in Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge took over.

Now - you might not know exactly what I am talking about and that is okay...but the sad, sad part is that our president was a history major at Yale and he should have known better what would happen in Iraq when he decided to invade that country.

It just goes to show that Bush was not only derelict in the Air Guard but was AWOL at Yale as well.

Or, to put it point blank: those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.

Who do you think pulled off 9/11? It was the shiites, Al-Queda. Now not all shiites are part of Al-Queda or anything like that but theyre the ones making all the trouble in Iraq right now. Theyre just different kind of Muslims that fight over nothing; it would be like Catholics vs Protestants in an all out religous war. How retarded is that?

They did attack us on 9/11, and we attacked back; have you seen another attack on the US since we invaded? You can thank the government and the armed forces of the US.

There are many reasons why we are there. I am surprised you haven't figured it out? Everybody knows it's just common sense.

Heres some reasons
1. Oil
2. To kill Sadaam (mission accomplished)
3. To allow Iraqis to vote as this spreads Democracy which is what we believe in. You do believe in Democracy right?
Oh almost forgot (mission accomplished they did vote)
4. To kill terrorists that hate the United States and try to kill us.
We are killing lots of them so that's good
5. Iran. It is easier to win a war with Iran when we are right next to it them if we have to send troops from America to Iraq and then to Iran. So Iraq gives us a closer base to launch an offensive. We will be going into Iran I assure you. Remember this post so you can look back at it and say, Yep, that person on yahoo answers was right.
6. Syria is also a problem to the United States and has major training grounds there so we are glad we are close to Syria also.
7. YOU, that's right you. If you are an American we are there for you too. Do not for a moment think that the terrorists in Iraq would not slit your throat in a heart beat.

I assure you, if they had you they would.

So it is good that America is there for folks like you and I.

After 911 do you really think the United States was just going to sit there? I mean do you really believe that we would just do nothing?

I thought it was absolute BRILLIANCE what Bush did. He killed a lot more terrorists than what the terrorists killed of us.

This is normal in warfare. The goal isn't to negotiate. The goal in warfare isn't to reason with maniacs. The goal is to utterly kick their as*es.

Here is a good example that might make you understand.

In ww2 we were beating Japan. Yet they would not surrender.

The President had an option. He could send in U.S. troops and we would lose a lot of men or he could drop the BOMB on them.

He told the leader of Japan if He doesn't surrender he would order it dropped.

He would not surrender.

We dropped it.

His people rose up and told him to surrender but the stubborn idiot wouldn't.

We dropped another and then...and only then...did he surrender.

Now what you should be asking is this.

Why didn't the Japanese emperor surrender? Why didn't he surrender and save all the bloodshed?

When you look at history you almost feel that the emperor was a complete idiot not to. His ego was so big, and in fact, they worshipped him like a God.

It was only after the power and Glory of the United States brought him to his knees did he surrender.

My grandfather was in that war and he said they had no choice but to drop the bomb.

In life sometimes there are only 2 choices.
Them or us...

That is what is in front of us right now. That's why its so hard to do what we must do because you and I are naturally caring, honest, decent folks but we are thrown into this THEM OR US war.

Well I have decided a long time ago. It aint going to be me...its going to be them.

I would rather live for what I believe in and if they want to die for what they believe in so be it.

We have been at war with radical Islam since Iran took our embassy people hostage during the Carter administration. We chose to ignore this disease known as international terrorism for decades. We finally realized that we are at war after the attack on 9/11. The only reason it ended up in Iraq right now is Saddam overplayed his hand. He would still be in power if he had cooperated with the UN inspectors. He liked making everyone believe he had horrible weapons. After 9/11 we could not take the chance that he did and might provide the technology to terrorists. Since we were still at war with Iraq since Dessert Storm, we took the opportunity to take out his perceived threat.

The terror supporting countries in the region realize the threat to them that a Free Iraq would pose, have been supporting the insurgency with money and sophisticated weapons. The disease of fundamentalist Islam tyranny cannot abide the cure that liberty brings to the long suffering people of the Middle East.

If we pull out it has the potential to be far worse with religious sects from many countries joining together to purge the others. Most of the ”countries” in the mid-east are not nation-states but collections of tribes bent on revenge. The potential for an all out conflagration in the area has many including Jordan, the Saudis and probably Egypt extremely concerned.

And if you think $3.30 per gallon of gas was bad think back to the early 1970’s when we ran out. Price won’t matter. Film at 10!

I think because if we are there and in Afghan. we have Iran in a vice grip....

As far as who are Sunni and Shia....we don't have time to hash that out...

And yes, our troops are still in the plan for terrorists. Its not true that we are just observing a civil war.

Please don't make the mistake of thinking that they are not attacking Coalition Forces, because they are... for the other questions, I'm not getting started on that...
