Would you consider it to be a "dangerous" place? Of all the times I've been there, it's been a pretty chill area, with the only "scary" things being the homeless people who approach you time to time. In fact, I thought it would be a nice place to live for maybe a year or so.
Like it? Or not? Any stories?

Atlanta is not that dangerous of a city. It was greatly improved for the Olympics, and has done a great job of not letting it fall into disrepair. The downtown area is not bad at all. It is well policed, and pretty much like any major city. The midtown area is great. The streets are well lit, and most apartments/condos have security. I went to Georgia Tech for 5 years (directly in downtown/midtown) and never had any problems. I enjoyed it a lot. It would be a great place for a single person or young couple (I would not recomend kids, schools not so good) to live for a while. Cost of living is high, but not nearly as bad as a lot of major cities (anywhere up northeast, LA, Chicago, Seattle are all a lot more). The only bad areas are in the business areas at night (not many people) or in the public housing areas ("projects"). If you are smart, keep in groups when walking around at night, and don't go where you shouldn't when you shouldn't (really not much of the city falls in this) you will not have any problems. I would recomend moving there if you would like to give it a shot for a while.

I wouldn't consider Atlanta a dangerous city. However, any major city is going to have its share of crime. The homeless people are mainly around the downtown area but the city has actually banned panhandling and constantly has police scoping the area. I just moved from Atlanta and I think it's a wonderful city to live in and raise a family. It's a major city but it still has an element of the good old-fashioned Southern living. It's got a great balance of technology and tradition.

It's the home of CNN and, I believe, TNT (at least that is where Inside the NBA is filmed). If a career in media is what you are looking for, Atlanta might not be such a bad place to live. Emory University, which is a very competitive school, is also in Atlanta. That is all I can say because I've never been there myself. Hope that helps.

There's crime in the city; but I don't think it's any more dangerous than a lot of U.S. cities. We live in the suburbs of Atlanta; and I really like it. I moved from Tallahassee, Florida because I desired a cooler climate. The climate is great hear; you have all the seasons including some taste of winter. Atlanta is a very artsy city; I think you will like it.
