If kitty is not using his litter box, it may be because:

(1) He is Stressed. Perhaps he is anxious about a new furniture or carpeting, a new person or animal in the house ...

(2) He is attracted to a previously soiled location. If he keeps returning to one spot, it may be a spot where another pet previously soiled. Make this spot less attractive to your pet by:

(a) Put her food bowl there. Cats do not like to eliminate at the same place they eat.
(b) Neutralize odour. A half and half solution of white vinegar and water will help to rid the area of any smell. Or use "Nature's Miracle" or some other pet odor and stain remover.
(c) Cover the area with a plastic sheet. This will make it unpleasant to your kitty and discourage her from eliminating there.

(3) He may not like the brand of litter. Cats can be finicky; if you have recently changed the type of litter used, change it back. If not, experiment with other brands until you find one that kitty likes

(4) He may not like where the litter box is located. Place the litter box in a clean, accessible, and relatively quiet location where kitty can do his business with some privacy and show your him where it is.

A 7 month old cat should not be doing this. You didn't say it was a male, but you did infer that...this does have a bearing on the answer. You also didn't specify whether he's been altered or not. Altering an animal can have a tremendous bearing on "evacuating", as well as great health benefits. You might want to consider doing this ASAP, if it's not already done.

Many times, it's the placement of the litter box, not the cleanliness, that can determine whether they use them on a regular basis. Since you did mention that he's not always consistant, that probably is not it, but changing the placement might help.

My primary concern is possible urinary infection. This is the number 1 cause of cat accidents, and is far more common in males than females. You should have your vet give him a thorough check up, and discuss the problem with him if the findings are negative. He may be able to give you some ideas on how to change the situation.

I know that if I hang a sprig of CatNip over the litter box area, mine not only use the box, but tend to play there, as well. You might try that if all else fails.

Make sure that you consistently use the same litter. I changed my cats litter to a different brand once, and he started urinating on my bed until I changed it back! His way of telling me that he didn't like it!

Does he go outside at all?? If he does try taking a patch of dirt that he has been to the toilet in and putting it the litter box?

Lastly if you haven't already, he needs to be neutered.

Hope this helps. Good luck :-)

particular, I do think of she is in simple terms frightened. We in simple terms accompanied a kitten and for the 1st 3 days he did no longer use the washing room in any respect! finally interior the night on day 3, he peed. And now (it particularly is been a week) he's utilising the muddle field in simple terms advantageous. in simple terms provide her time. shop issues calm. crawl and talk low to her. attempt to maintain the lighting fixtures off as much as available for some days in case you could just to maintain her comfortable. stable success.

when he doesnt use it, find his poops and place them into the cat box. Try to let him see you do this since cats are curious- he might catch on. also see if his box is too big.. he might not want to use his box because its hard to get in and out of. after he poops in the box give him a treat or pets..hehe good luck
