ok so my g/f gets paid every two weeks from her job, and every check her parents come after her and tell her they need the money worse then she does, they give her a huge guilt trip and finally she ends up giving them all of her earnings. My g/f came to me and said she wanted to prevent this so I had her sign her check over to me, I deposited it into my account, and I told her she could take the cash out of my account any time she needs it. My question is, can her parents legally take her money from her, and could they come after me for putting her check into my account so they could not get to the money?

Assuming you live in the U.S. and you and Girlfriend are both legal adults…

Can her parents legally take her money from her? Only if she gives it to them, or she actually owes it to them (ie she borrowed money from them and they have written evidence of that) and they get a court order for it.

Could they come after you for putting her check into your account? She can give her money to whomever she wants, and her parents can’t do anything about it, UNLESS, it’s a case where they can prove her mentally incompetent or something to that effect, but I assume that’s not the case.

Now, with all that said…I think it is INCREDIBLY UNINTELLIGENT of your girlfriend to give you her money. It leaves her in an extremely vulnerable position, and you can come off to others as if you are manipulating her and/or taking advantage of her (even if she claims that she asked you do it).

What she needs to do is grow a backbone and tell her parents NO when they ask for money.

Now, if she's a minor...it's a totally different story, and if that’s the case STOP depositing her money into your account IMMEDIATELY.

I dont think they could go after you....the check was in her name and it is her signature on the check showing that she signed it over to you...as far as taking money from her...it sounds like to me she is giving in and letting them HAVE her paycheck...she should put her foot down

They can't even if she's under 18. She has a contract with the company she works at, not her parents. I suggest she emancipates from those crackheads and just cuts them off... a parent that steals money from a child is a disgusting thing indeed.

I also suggest she search their bedroom and closet, find the drugs they're spending it on and calls the cops on them.

It's her money. Her parents can't do a thing except throw her out of the house.

Yes money can be taken from your children at any time. They raised her didn't they. They should not even have to ask her for it. She should willingly give it to them if they need it. She is a very bad daughter.
