Dude they are easy to change. I have changed so many vw engins its not even funny. A vw engin and transmission only have 4 mounts that hold them in. And they don't break real easy like that other guy said they are maid of steel and vary tough rubber. U just have to unhook all the wires and hoses shifter linkage. Pull out the radiator and fan then hook a cherry picker up to it take off the motor mounts and pull the motor and tranni out. It's so easy Me and my step dad have changed vw engins in one day before it's not hard.

Its not easy by any means. there are 2 ways to do it. you can either drop the engine straight down by dropping the suspension(which i dont reccomend) or you can pull the radiator, headlights, bumper, pretty much the front of the car minus the the fenders. heres some advice...........the engine mounts normally break when taking off or put them on so keep that in mind. in germany the cost $130 each. I know i had to replace 2 on mine.

ask the guys on VWvortex.com. They know everything about the cars.

and its not a simple procedure, but at the same time, its not the most dificult engine drop either.

and theres 3 engines that direct swap: the 2.slow, the 1.8t, and the Vr6.

it depends what engine you want to put in. it may be expensive and with jetta's there are only like 2 engines that fit. but, like i said, its expensive and then you gotta pay to reset everything.
