I know that chocolate is toxic to dogs, by an unpronouncable ingredient. My dog is a West Highland White Terrier and is probably about 14 pounds. Today, she stole a "samoa" girl scout cookie, and a thin mint from one of my family members. A samoa doesn't have a lot of chocolate, just a tiny bit of chocolate drizzled on the top, and a little on the bottom, although the thin mint is all chocolate. They are a little bigger than 1 and 1 half quarters, each. She hasn't shown any sign on toxication, and we didn't call the doctor. It has probably been from 30-45 minutes since she gobbled them up. If she starts vomiting, what should I do?

How is your dog acting? Does she seem like she really sick? It doesn't sound like too much chocolate. My Pekingese has gotten into more without much of a problem and he is 14 lbs, but some dogs may have a better reaction than others. Either way, you should just call your vet and see what they think. If they say bring her in, then bring her in.

You should see your vet, regardless. Poisoning from chocolate consumption often shows little or no symptoms for hours, but can kill a dog within 24 hours.
I'm not terribly familiar with the Girl Scout cookies you mentioned, but I believe (if memory serves me) that Thin Mints and Samoas have a lot of dark chocolate, which is the most dangerous kind for dogs.
I'd see your vet ASAP, just to be on the safe side.
Good luck!

PS - for future reference and your own benefit, here are the REAL guidelines for how much chocolate is too much for a dog:
Milk chocolate - one ounce for every pound of body weight
Semi-Sweet chocolate - one ounce for every 3 pounds
Baker's chocolate - one ounce for every 9 pounds
NOT twice his weight in chocolate!

Chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. The good news is that it takes a fairly large amount of theobromine, ~100-150 mg per pound of your animal, to cause a toxic reaction.
It would take about a half pound of chocolate to induce a toxic reaction in your dog.

Signs are most commonly seen within 12 hours (or less) of chocolate ingestion.
Excitement / nervousness / trembling
Vomiting / diarrhea
Excessive thirst / sometimes excessive urination.
Muscle spasms
Seizures
Coma (rare)
Death (rare) -- likely due to heart rhythm abnormalities

Your dog will be fine.

dogs would need to eat an awful lot of chocolate to get the poisoning. I have a dog who got into a bowl of fondue chocolate, and he's fine. He was about 15 lbs at the time, and the vet said that he'd need to eat about a pound of the stuff for it to kill him. Don't worry too much.

In order for it to be toxic, the dog needs to eat at least 3 times it's weight in chocolate.

He might get diarrhea for a little bit, but he'll be fine if it was only 2 cookies.
