I have Vista now, and have had no issues whatsoever with it. But the question is what kind of user is your father? Is he a power user with lots of peripherals and apps that need to integrate with it? If so, he would be better off waiting. I have seen many people very stressed over not having the drivers for Vista to get their stuff working. The wait for those drivers to come out can take months. On the other hand, if your father is like me, and does not have much use other than the internet and a few other apps, then he will be highly impressed with the efficiency and overall environment that Vista creates. It is an awesome step from where XP left off.

I personally do not recommend upgrading to Vista, as the other post mentioned, for at least a year. No computer these days is up-to-par with Vista's specifications.

You may buy a computer with Vista pre-installed, but once you start installing applications and hardware, it will soon go to ****. LoL.

Plus, there are a lot of software and hardware compatibility issues with Vista. A lot of digital cameras, scanners, programs, etc., still don't work on Vista.

And the security features on Vista are an annoyance, and, in some cases, the worst thing ever. A lot of people can't play games on Vista because it says it's not safe.

A recent article that I read said that WildTangent, a games publisher, had a lot of issues with running its games on Vista, telling them it was not secure. So they couldn't play the games.

And a lot of the features, such as the gadgets/widgets on the side-bar are time-/space-consuming. And they're quite useless for many home users. Just give it some time, and it MIGHT be okay to upgrade.

Vista's first-week sales were less than half of XP's first-week sales. =P
