AKC (American Kennel Club) and CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) are actually quite similar. One is the main registry for the US and the other is the main registry for Canada. AKC will accept CKC registration and I believe CKC accepts AKC registration but don't hold me to that. There really isn't a difference. Both are strictly for maintaining pedigree information. Neither registry guarantees that the dog is breeding quality or that it is healthy or has a good temperment. That is on the breeder and partly on the new owner.

Continental Kennel Club (also CKC) is a registry that is used mainly by people who want to say they have papered puppies. If you're looking to buy a dog with CKC registration, ask if it is Continental or Canadian. Don't even waste your time with Continental. You can register anything with them for a price whether it is a purebred, a mutt, or a hybrid. As long as they get their money, they really don't care about the accuracy of the information given to them. I will admit that they are improving their standards but they aren't quite there yet. I still wouldn't want a dog that is Continental registered as the accuracy of its pedigree or even breed may not be very reliable.

You can check out all three using their websites.

AKC is a legit registry. It is the oldest US registry. It is made up of all of the parent clubs of all of the breeds it registers.

CKC (unless it is the Canadian Kennel Club) is a bogus scam registry made by BYB/mills in order to register dogs that aren't able to be registered with a legit registry because the dogs aren't really purebred, don't have papers from a legit registry, were sold on limited registration and spay/neuter agreements but the owner broke contract and bred anyway or the breeder is suspended form doing business from a legit registry. It is registry in which the papers are worthless, not worth the paper they are written on. In otherwords these dogs aren't really registered and often not really even purebred.
Dogs with CKC papers should NOT be used for breeding.

As for AKC dogs even though the AKC is a legit registry not all AKC dogs should ever be bred. Many don't meet breed standard and either haven't had or haven't passed health testing or temperament testing. Only about 10% of registered dogs should be in a breeding program.

The US has 2 legit registries...the AKC (American Kennel Club) and the UKC (United Kennel Club).

There are 2 CKC's
One is the Canadian Kennel Club which is pretty much the same as the AKC but represents Canadian dogs and dogs can be cross registers

the other CKC is the Continental Kennel Club and more commonly used by BYB'b and Puppy mills for registering their dogs,

If I was buying a pure bred pup out if the US I would only be considering those with AKC registerations

AKC is the american kennel club and CKC is the canadian kennel club. Breed standards are pretty much the same between clubs - many canadians successfully show in the states and vice versa.
If you want to breed registered dogs you have to join the breed club that is registered for your breed of dog in whatever country you live in.

AKC is the American Kennel Club. The other is a worthless club used by puppy mill people to make you think they are not cranking out a million pups a year. CKC is worthless in the AKC world.

Oops sorry to all!! I miss read the question! Canadian Kennel Club ia also a reputable Club and I know that AKC recognizes them. If that's what you were asking about?
If not than it is the crap club used by puppymills.
Sorry again!

The AKC is the American Kennel Club
The CKC is the Canadian Kennel Club

I beleive they recognize each others paper work if it were to be important for you to be registered in both countries.
