I know ancient Egyptians did. I think Hindu expresses the many faces of God in individual representations and allows statues to be made of them, but I don't think that is the same as worshipping idol gods. Some people think Catholics do because they hold Mary in a divine esteem - others think the trinity represents worhiping multiple gods. Muslim don't allow representations to be made of their holiest representations, so I think you are wrong about them having anything to hold or look at.

Interesting though, we all do have something to look at or to hold - a cross, a star, rosaries, crystals, runes, even rabbit's feet and lucky charms. Humans seem to have a desire for such things, don't they?

Peace!

All religions worship an idol of some kind, even when it is expressly forbidden you can find accepted practices of some type of idol worship in all religions. Take Catholics (now before you all come and string me up I am one so relax) we pray to Saints, some other religions might see that as idol worship, and they would in part be right however we also acknowledge that we believe in one GOD above all others and we also proclaim him as "the one true god" but unless you are very familiar with a religion and its inner workings it is kind of tough to decide if they worship idols or not. Wiccans worship nature as a whole, Hindus believe in many gods, this sort of thing is not considered idol worship as they do not acknowledge ONE specific god, that's sort of a Christian mentality and a rather new thought at that, as Christianity is one of the newer religions.

Hindus use statues to represent their Gods, but as for whether or not they actually worship statues I don't know.

Islam forbids idol worship of any sort.

Just to clear up some misguided peoples beliefs above, Catholics do not worship statues, they are the same as Muslims and it is not allowed (it says so in both the Koran and the Bible). Catholics are different in that they often have statues of Mary in churches.

However, having a statue does not in any way mean you worship the statue. Statues are there as reminders, as are paintings or stained glass windows.

There is a vast difference.

Worshipping a statue means you believe that this particular item is God itself (in whatever form you see God). Catholics (and other Christians) know that God is all around, in everything we see, as do Muslims, Allah is all around in everything we see.

Hinduism (I believe) is an older religion and therefore likely to be the first for any similarities, but it's also a polytheist religion, which means they worship more than one God, as is any form of Paganism (nature worship, not devil worship!), i.e. the Sun God and the Moon God, etc.

Not sure if that was too rambling or of any use to you at all!

Hindus worship tangible forms of God, which I guess you can call "idol worship" but it's more a tool to help us focus better, spiritually, on the object of our devotion.

Christianity does it too...there are crucifixes both with and without Christ upon them, the Virgin Mary, Nativity scenes, they all are some form of idol worship in some way or another.

Muslims don't have idol worship, but they do have the Kaaba as an object towards which they direct their prayer, but it's more directional than actually praying to the Kaaba.

Hindus were around thousands of years before Islam was created-(which was only 1400-1500 years ago).
Both Jews & Muslims consider Christianity idol worshipers--and neither religion will pray or worship in a Christian church.

Muslims do not worship idols. In fact they do not even have representations of people of animals in their Mosques. If you visit one you will see all the elaborate decoration is geometric shapes. Some Christian sects do not allow idols but the Catholics worship them all the time. All catholic churches are full of them. Hindus worship idols.

Behind ALL religions there are what the `others` call `Pagan` rituals, idols, symbols, and false Gods. Islam and Christianity are scions of Judaism, which was riddled with idols and `unsound` practises. Islam is a modern religion, Hinduism is ancient.

I think it is Hindus who seem to have numerous idols. Mind you if we are materialistic then we are using money or things as idols. If the tv is at the centre of someones life then that can be viewed as an idol(forgive the pun) I used alcohol to fill a void in me. So booze used to be an idol of mine. Not anymore thanks be to God

No religion actually worships idols. Some have small statues representing gods; it is NOT the same thing. There is no idolatory in Hinduism, and none in Islam. Any representation of God is forbidden in the Koran; they won't even have representational art in mosques.

Idolatory does not in any way exist.

Its in basic terms counting on the self thinking, like in case you appreciate your mothers and dads, what do u anticipate others to do in the event that they dont appreciate their mothers and dads, you could advice them to do a similar way what you do for your self. Worship idol is in basic terms a sort of we are visualizing God as a individual between us and he additionally replaced into individual then slowly his concepts and stable doings starts off comming into our concepts, thats why its been worshipped whether it doesnt advise that in case you worship God with idols then in basic terms you could attain moksha even incorrect way is available, yet you are going to be sparkling out of your heart.
