Since the root canal removes the nerve tissue of the tooth, it can become dry and brittle, making it more likely to break if you bite down on something just right. Sometimes the break can be easily fixed, say with the crown that is recommended or the break can be so extensive that the tooth can't be saved and would need to be pulled. Since you had a root canal done on a molar, one of your main chewing teeth, I would highly recommend that you protect this tooth with a crown.

Well, In your case, and root-treated teeth generally, it is a adviced to place a crown over the tooth. When the pulp is removed, the pulp's purpose is to enrich the tooth with important components and nutrition. When pulp removed dehydration and the tooth becomes dead, it takes place to the tooth and becoming more brittle or susceptible to any destruction much easily, the crown distributes the forces falling on the tooth of bitting upon all the tooth and having a powerful restored surface. Also, it depeneds which tooth exactly was treated as there is specific teeth with low pressure falling on them so your dentist may not recommend a crown, you need to know the opinion of your dentist whether it needs a crown or not.

I saw that it is a back tooth, (molar) so you need a crown, as the force of bitting is very high in the back teeth.

You definitely need a crown, especially if it's a molar. You should not chew or bite on the treated tooth untill you have the crown placed .After a root canal the tooth is suseptible to fracture.

Since the root has been removed your tooth will most likely darken. If it is a front tooth I would go with the crown. If it is in the back of your mouth and you do not mind having a darker tooth then I would pass on the crown. They are expensive. Root canals and crowns!

Yes, You need a crown.

After a root canal, the tooth is now a "dead" shell. It still looks like a tooth and works like a tooth -- but -- it will become brittle over time.

You need a strong cap for the chewing surface or sooner or later the tooth will crack.
