I totally hate the whole engagement gift baloney. Where did this crap come from? Obviously a woman invented it. So you haver to go the wedding and give a gift. You have to go to the Bridal SHower and give a gift AND NOW another frigging gift for engagement?? Don't go and give nothing. Take a stand against this stupidity now!!!

A gift is not necessary. I think the whole point of an engagement party is to celebrate the engagement and for friends and family on both sides of the couple to meet and become acquainted. If you feel obligated to give a gift, I would consider a nice wedding planner/album or something of the like that the couple can use in the coming months.

Check with the others that have been invited. An engagement party is to announce the up coming wedding. If everyone has chipped in to fund the party
being given, then you'd want to
chip in a bit to the party giver.
If not take a pen, a small note book and ask where they have registered gift lists to select wedding gifts for them. Once a pattern or dish set is registered,
one dish, plate, glass, or place setting is paid for, not the whole set. (even linens and tea pots are sometimes registered.)
(A Bride's shower consists of showering the bride with the garter, something old, new, borrowed, and something blue;
and things to ready her for the wedding night.)

Zero dollars. Give them a Congratulations card. I thank God I do not have any friends so snobbish as to have an engagement party. It's just a ploy to get even more money and gifts than they're already going to get at their wedding.

What's with people these days? Engagement parties, bridal showers, weddings, multiple baby showers for the same baby...it makes me sick! But I digress.

Nothing. A monetary gift is not required at an engagement party. If you really feel as if you must do something take a bottle of champagne or wine or a fruit basket or your happy face and well wishes!

$0. Give a gift only at a shower or the wedding itself.
