Deuteronomy 13:6-8
'If your brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife tries to secretly entice you, telling you to go and worship other gods, gods of people living near you, or far from you, or anywhere on earth, do not listen to him. 'You must kill them. Show them no pity. And your hand must strike the first blow.

It was written in a time when the majority of civilization was polytheistic. Back in the day, I'm sure it was taken quite literally, too. Thank goodness the Jews and the Christians have both seen the light of civilized life. Let's keep praying for the Muslims to eventually grow up as well!

Means to me that if I take notice of that passage, I am not a very nice person at all. Why would you want to kill someone just because they tried to entice you? Much easier just to say No! I agree, load of junk. As far as I am concerned that particular book is designed to make you question, not to make you act!

This is a passage written by Moses to the Israelites because these people were trying to turn them away from the Lord. It is not written to or for you.

When reading the Bible. Always ask, who, what, why, where and when. Peace.

First of all this was not describing the kinds of non-christian religions we have today. This was referring to religions where children were burned alive for an idol and other such atrocities.

Second, it is ridiculous to take one line from the bible and think it relates to ALL people of faith today. Too general.

THIS IS WHY THE QURAN IS A BOOK OF A KILLER RELIGION. MY HOLY BIBLE SAYS,

"13:6 If thy brother , the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter , or the wife of thy bosom , or thy friend , which [is] as thine own soul ,entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

13:7 [Namely], of the gods of the people which [are] round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the [one] end of the earth even unto the [other] end of the earth ;

13:8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him "

"You are the pure one and everyone in your family is dirt, especially your wife. They will try to make you do stuff that is 'bad'. Kill them all as soon as possible". My sister tells me I'm a cynic.
