a tree without a bark i think means If a tree didn't have a bark then it wouldn't be it's self and if you were referring to a human then a tree without bark means you wouldn't be you without the things you are know for. I tired my best so I hope that works!

A tree without a bark isn't a tree. A donut without a hole is a danish, and so on.

Or, it could mean a coat tree.
