Ask your vet which he/she would suggest. I would stay away from "Greenies" they can swell in the dogs intestine if not properly digested and will need surgery to be removed.

If the bad breath is a dental problem you should get your dog on a dental food (science diet or medical) - these help. Start brushing your dog's teeth to stop the plaque from building up. Take your dog in for a professional cleaning - it'll make them happier too, gingivitis is not comfortable for dogs.

If it's not a dental problem then it's what the dog is eating. If the dog isn't getting fed people food then the breath shouldn't be too bad (if your dog is getting fed people food - stop, it will shorten their lifespan). Try changing the brand of food you use to something the dog may have an easier time digesting - something without corn.

First of all, make sure nothing is caught in your dog's mouth or throat! Often times dogs can get small bits of matter stuck in their mouths that, over time, start to fester and cause horrid odors!
As for treats and such ... Greenies (despite their bad reputation lately) are very effective in promoting good oral health AND freshening breath. If you get Greenies, make sure to get a size larger than recommended (to prevent gulping and swallowing of chunks) and monitor your Boxer when he's chewing it, and dispose of the Greenie when it gets small enough for him to swallow. Surprisingly, Greenies are actually more digestible than most commercial kibble dog foods! But be safe about them and watch your pet when he's gnawing on it.
You could also use Petrodex breath spray every day, but the best cure is regular, frequent toothbrushing (using products specifically for dogs!). There are also treats called Yip-Yaps that supposedly help to freshen breath, but I haven't tried them personally, so I can't point you in either direction with those.
Good luck!

PS - if none of this works, you should see your vet ... often times bad breath is a sign of a medical issue and can mean distress to one of many internal organs, or even periodontal disease.
