I am going this weekend and I am curious to know what is still going on. This is my first time back since the storm. Let me know if you have any good ideas on food and things to see/do. Also- does La Freniere Park in Metairie look good? Are there still tons of birds there?

La Freniere was still a staging ground when I left last year. As for things to do and food - almost every single signature restaurant has reopened (all of Emeril's, K-Paul's, Commander's, etc..) and the quarter is humming. Harrah's is at full throttle, Mardi Gras (thought smaller) went off fine [balls were held and all].

I cannot comment on the birds though a trip down to Audobon Park Zoo might help answer that question. You should find more than enough to keep you busy.

Laissez les bon temps roullet!!!

The quarter looks great. Went in Dec 06 for a wedding. Sitting their on the steps and drinking a Cafe au lait and you can almost pretend that nothing happened. Unfortunately all you have to do is look into the 'eyes' of the locals and it's written on their souls. Make sure and get your self some Aunt Sally Pralines...Audubon Park was good, but it still pisses me off that they ripped up the middle for a golf course. Don't go East...it's just heart wrenching. Enjoy...

hi i live 30 miles southwest of new orleans but i go to new orleans almost everyday. the new orleans east part and parts by the lakefront are still messed up bad but as far as the downtown area and the metarie area they are back to normal. i would recommend Drago's on 17th street. you go on veterens blvd then take severn ave. this food place is excellent. they have the best seafood and the best charbroilled oysters. even if you hate shell fish and hate oysters, like me, the charbroilled oysters are sooo delicious. you wont be disappointed. while you in new orleans you should go to the riverwalk and imax theater that are in downtown new orleans. its beautiful there and you can look over the levee and look at the mississippi river. and people always talk about bourbon street. from me i wouldnt recommend it. you can party other places in downtown new orleans. bourbon street smells awful and its sooo dirty. i would recommend cafe de monde, its a good delicious beignet shop. while you sit in cafe you can enjoy the new orleans air. also dont forget to try krystal. its a burger place if you looking for fast food. its itty bitty hamburgers that are delicious. that place is on bourbon street. while your there also check out the malls. they have the lakeside, the clearview, the esplanade, and the riverwalk. all are big malls except for clearview. they are great places to shop.

i hope you have fun in new orleans. enjoy your stay here. i know you'll like it.

From what I understand most of the touristy things are open, the French Quarter and things around that area. Don't know about the birds though. Here is a web site for New Orleans. http://www.nola.com
