The 'A' size was the designation for an old, bulky battery that became unusable in newer, portable equipment.
They may still be out there, but so are dinosaur bones.

There is an "A Battery"

They are typically used in Vacuum Tubes

To respond to Morey, yes there is a "B" Battery

Also used for Vacuum Tubes.... Difference between A, B, and there is also a "C" Battery used for the Vacuum Tubes; is for the part of the tube that the battery is storing power for.

For that matter- there is no B either, but there are C and D.
And- I even had an HP calculator that took N sized batteries.

I think you should begin your career as a battery historian.
