When you were a child, what image did you get in your head when you thought of god?

As a child my Mom would read me bible stories. We never read the first one (for all I know it could have been acknowledgements and stuff), but opposite that page was a picture of a cloud - it was sort of eerie looking, not really peaceful looking. I asked Mom why we never read it and all she would say is that it was about God and that I wasn't old enough to understand it. So to me, for YEARS and years that cloud was my only association of what God looked like.
Weird huh? Because even then, when I wasn't looking at the book, I just assumed that God had a body and was a person of some sort, only better.

My Mum used to say that thunder was God throwing his hobnail boots in the cupboard, so I had a picture of an old guy with a beard etc... but she said it with a twinkle in her eye and I think I always knew she wasn't serious.

Pretty much like what you see in the paintings in church. Beautiful blue sky, white, fluffy clouds, people in beautiful robes. It was all headed by an older-looking man with a white beard.

A sort of atmosphere, but without end; it was loving and infinitely so...gentle in its approach, without the slightest hint of disapproval. It was unlike anything else I knew...that's how I learned to recognize it. At night I would commune with it, pray and just be with and within it.

To be perfectly honest, I can't recall. I remember (when talking to other kids) that we just believed. Like remember "infinity x infinity" conversations, the same basic childish principle. The same sort of supreme unquestioned trust that we should have for God. "As humble as children..."
