Oh, absolutely. I think it was Kahlil Gibran who wrote, "A sense of humor is a sense of perspective." How true. Humor is an entirely separate thing from mockery.

One day the zoo-keeper noticed that the orangutan was reading two books, the Bible and Darwin's _The Origin of Species_.

Surprised, he asked the ape, "Why are you reading both of those books?"

"Well," said the orangutan, "I just wanted to know if I was my brother's keeper or my keeper's brother."

Q: How many Unitarian Universalists does it take to change a light bulb?

A: We choose not to make a statement either in favor of or against the need for a light bulb. However, if in your own journey you have found light bulbs work for you, that is fine. You are invited to write a poem or compose a modern dance about your personal relationship with your light bulb, and present it next month at our annual light bulb Sunday service, in which we will explore a number of light bulb traditions, including incandescent, fluorescent, three-way, long-life and tinted, all of which are equally valid paths to luminescence.

I wish some guy would'a brought that one up a lot earlier. I think you're really onto something. If I may be so audacious as to venture, I believe God's got a good sense of humor too. Otherwise the stress would have gotten to Him long ago. Imagine having to watch not only all the antics that humans do, but also the fumbling and the conortions of so many folks trying to do the "right thing" but without asking for much help, or even asking at ALL, if that's really even what He wants. Not to mention all the sober and tediously serious religious leaders, who dish out these fear trips so, and to such an extent that people are often even alienated from the real nature of God, (which is Love, isn't it?) till they've become something awful. This is how fanaticism and the "T" word are born. By people telling other people all kinds of fearful things about God, that are based on gross misunderstanding of His real nature.
Someone once asked a visiting missionary from a foreign country what was the most important quality for a missionary (a representative of God to the needy) and he answered, poised, hands in the dishwater, "A good sense of humor, I suppose!"
Sure, I know that the immediate future doesn't look all that bright, but hey, why should we worry about it NOW. Toughening ourselves up for the future with soberness and sanctimoniousness today! What a joke! ("Take no thought for the morrow!) Means don't worry about it! That's a commandment!
So my answer: You bet we should! It'll do us good to laugh at ourselves, and it'll probably do God good too! Let Him know we're happy and trusting Him to work things out.

ps. Sorry I almost forgot this part, there's one place in the Bible where Jesus is telling His disciples some really deep stuff and afterward He even asks them , "Have ye understood all these things?" and they respond,
"Yea, Lord, we understand!" Gimme a break! It's obvious from their later actions that they DIDN'T understand! Jesus probably had His tongue a bit in His cheek. In a modern day translation it would be more like, "Yea, we understand!"..Not! But we aren't told that He said anything after. But the impression I get as to why it's even in there is 'cause here these guys are, "The Holy Apostles" and still, they pulled some real boners, and continued to do so. They were not some sanctified, perfected, "finished product" but, just like us, were continuing to grow and learn. Who do you think you're gonna run into in heaven. Buncha guys in robes chantin' Maybe somewhere! But not on MY block, not in My mansion. We're gonna rock! We're gonna have fun! There's gonna be KIDS! We're gonna have FLYIN' lessons and we're gonna DANCE and that's not all! We're gonna be dancing with all the other sinners like ourselves-saved sinners- that's the only kinda saints there are!

Absolutely!! If we can't laugh at ourselves and our beliefs, at our mistakes and the mistakes of our deities, then we are taking life way too seriously.
Enjoy life, laugh often.

Of course... why take everything so serious? Even His Holiness the Dalai Lama is great at cracking the jokes, but to be respectful of others is what's best and he's tops at that.

Absolutely! Most of us, myself included, are nuts. Why else would we be wasting time on this crazy website when we could actually be accomplishing something useful!
