hi def vs. plasma the good the bad?

i was told not to buy a plasma screen becuase they do not work as long, as a hi def tv does. is this true?

i think you guys ar right. I thought lcd was hi def and plasmam was well plasma lol thank you!

the tv i get has to be 60 or 62 inches
if that makes a diffrence.

LCD
Plasma
DLP
LCD projection
Some CRT's but they aren't that great in my opinion

Flat panel LCD's are thin. That's the only advantage. I don't like them due to bad viewing angles (what is found with laptops).

Plasma is great, but they have a reputation of burning in images (like channel logos, game pause menus, dvd menus). So that's a problem, although newer sets may have fixed this issue, I don't know.

DLP is great, but some people expeirience a rainbow effect ( i don't).

LCD projection is great. Better viewing angles help make this a great buy. No problems I can find, and I had one or a while.

Hi, I won't belabor the point that your talking about a LCD and a Plasma. The first problem you have is that you can't get a LCD in the size that you want at this time. So a Plasma is what you would have to go with. The major drawbacks with Plasmas are the burn and the fact that if something goes wrong with the screen you will have to replace it. My advise would be if you are going to get one you get a replacement warranty with it. They offer the best picture from any angle that you can buy and other than the drawbacks you won't be unhappy with your purchase.

I think you are a bit confused. HD and Plasma are not alternatives to each other.

Most Plasma TV's are HD or HD compatible now. Technology has advanced to the stage where you will get 20 or more years of use out of a plasma TV.

LCD's are an alternative to plasma but you should expect to pay a little more.

Try the Panasonic HD plasma in 42 or 50 inch.

If you are going 60 -62 inches then you should actually be looking at DLP rear projection sets. Plasmas in the 60 inch range sell for $5000 or more. Whereas 62 inch DLP's retail for $1500 to $2500.
In addition, the DLP units are 1080p.

Plasma Tv's have better color tones and longer life though there is a chance of burn-in and the 1080p Plasmas are very expensive but If you have the money I say go with the Plasma

In order for HD to work...the station must broadcast in HD...and there arent a lot out there.
I would wait on the HD...all stations are suposed to transfer by 2009.
Go with plasma...it will at least take a regular non HD channel and clear the image up!

both are hi def, i think you are looking for hi-def vs lcd. lcd looks great and you don't have to worry about it. plasma looks better, but the plasma wears out eventually and you have to replace it..

yes plus plasma have a bad rep about burn in images if left to long on a particular screen. go with a dlp projection.
