There are a few core classes most nursing programs require. These are generally Anatomy and Phys. I and II, General Psychology, and English I and II. Some other course are Introduction to Sociology, General Biology I and II, and/or Microbiology. Its good idea to research Nursing schools in your area and see what their pre-req's are for their nursing program. I recc. taking some of these classes first and seeing how you do in them. Shoot for an A or a B as most nursing programs are very competitive (almost all require a min. of a 2.5, but most students who gain admission have at least a 3.0).
Many students consider nursing without taking any lab. science courses, only to find out when they do..they hate it. Its fairly wise to take these courses now, see how you do, then transfer to a college that has an accredited nursing program and complete some classes there while you apply for admission to their program. Admission is generally based upon your GPA in the pre req. classes, a personal statement, and your score on the NCLEX exam. Some colleges also require an interview before you are admitted to their school of nursing.
Best of luck! Nursing is a great "in demand" career!

go to the campus counselor and they will set you up with a list to start with...you know like all of the prerequisite classes and that will be a good place to start. I have been toying with the idea myself for far too long. I have hesitated so long that if I would have gone to school when I started thinking about it I could have been a nurse with master's degrees.

Nurses are in such short supply that any college would be glad to have you enroll in their School of Nursing and the credits you already have will probably apply as all types of adjustments are being made to welcome ex-students back ~~~ trust me and give it a try.

Good Luck ~~~ hospitals need nurses with heart and if you have the courage to go back to school and better yourself ~~~ you have heart.
