Rabies Vaccines are made to last so long. If you got a one year rabies shot for your dog, then you need to go in and get it another one. If you don't know which one your dog got, then the chances are, he got the yearly vaccine. You can find out from the vet that gave your dog the rabies vaccine last. They can tell you when your dog is due for it's next rabies vaccine..

Your puppy can be given the rabies vaccine at 3 months of age. It will be good for 1 year. After 1 year the dog will need another rabies shot. This vaccine will be good for 2 years. After that you will need to get a rabies shot every 2 years.

Your dog should have already been vaccinated against rabies. Symptoms can start fairly quickly, but can sometimes take a good long time. Generally within about 10 days they assume things are fine, as they will quarantine a dog for 10 days if they suspect that he has been exposed to rabies. You risk losing your dog if he should bite or hurt someone and the authorities are called and ask for proof of a rabies vaccination.

A vaccine means to prevent. The main reason that people get rabies vaccines for their dogs is so they are protected if they ever bite someone. The chance of actually getting rabies is quite rare.

For example, if your dog would bite someone (it wouldn't matter if that person beat the dog and it was acting in self defense), if the person presses any type of charges, by law, it has to be tested for rabies. If you have documentation proving your dog was vaccinated by a veterinarian in the past year, your dog may live. If you did not vaccinate, they can legally euthanize your dog, chop off it's head, and send it in for rabies testing.

There are no symptoms that it needs to be done..if a dog has symptoms of rabies then it is way too late to even consider vacciantion.
Rabies vacciantions are the law in most states in the US. They need to be started at 20 weeks of age or older (some states require it earlier despite the protocol by the AAHA/AVMA). A puppy should get a rabies vacciantion at 20 weeks or older followed a year later by a booster and then not again for 3 years.

It prevents the disease, not delays it or makes it better. Your dog needs it every 1 yr or 3 yrs (depending on what type of shot you got the last time) after they are 6 months old. They won't show any symptoms of needing another vaccine because the vaccine protects them from the disease if they come into contact with it.

I honestly don't remember when my dog got his last Rabies shot but I know he is up to date as I keep him licensed.

You should get your dog a rabies vaccine by the time he is six months old. You can either get a one-year vaccine or a three year. If oyur dog is older than six months, check with the shelter for his vaccination records. If there are no records available, take him to the vet and get a vaccine. It is required by law, at least in Ohio, and in many other states.

If you don't know when your dog last had a rabies vaccination, get the shot: It's far better than letting your dog get the disease.

One thing you might want to do is keep a folder with your dog's medical records in it.. It might save you a huge amount of time and trouble.

If he starts to salivate heavily, like foaming, that's a sign of rabies. Also, if he becomes sensitive to loud sounds. Every dog should be vaccinated, which includes the rabies vaccination, which prevents or helps to prevent a dog from contracting the rabies virus. Have your dog examined by a vet.
