I need to lose about 120 pounds...... I know this is a lot of weight. But I have cleared my home of all "Junk Food" and bought salad size plates to control portions. I have four young children and am a housewife. I cannot get out of the home to exercise. I go to the stores and park as far away as possible and walk around the store a little extra to move more. I have a stationary bike. Are there any execises I can do here at home to help me. I have no stairs in my home. And a small backyard. My doctor said I can exercise but now I dont know how!!!!!! Any help would be GREAT!!!!!

Yes, besides your good work on diet, concentrate more on strength training. Next time you go to Wal-Mart/Target/etc. pick up some dumbells.
Doing strength training (arm curls, chest press, shoulder extensions, helicopters, sit-ups, push-ups) early in the morning will boost your metabolism for the rest of that day, enabling you to burn calories after and not just during the workout (rebuilding the muscle you tear (in the good way) into larger muscle will also burn calories for you). Do strength training 2-3 times a week.

Far as aerobic exercise I'd try to do it about twice a week for 30-40 minutes...even getting a cheap stationary exercise bike should work for this. Note simple walking or slow yoga won't help much, it has about 1/4 the health benefits as, say, jogging for the same amount of time (because it only uses/exercises very few muscles in your legs). Aerobics though (in the form of buying an aerobics video and doing the moves IE step workouts) should work fairly well, though (good but not as good as stationary cycling or treadmill workouts).

Best luck!

YES YOU CAN!!

I've lost about 20lbs at home since the begining of the year. I feel great, and have about 30 more lbs to loose.

First, I joined Weight Watchers. I purchased the "At Home Kit" from their website. It was alot of $$. But it's also being sold on eBay for a lot less. If you go to their website you can see if the At Home Kit is avalible in your area. If not they also have an online program. Or just get the Guide Book, Complete Food Guide, Food Journal and Points Tracker on eBay. It's a nice program that can teach you how to look at food and excercise in a whole new way. I've learned so much in 7 weeks about myself, my habits and what I need to function. I don't go to meetings, but I do use their free message boards. It's been great.

Second, excercising at home is easy. I walk every day. Get a pedometer and track your steps. Try to increase this on a daily or weekly basis. If you have a stroller or if your kids have bikes, take them out to walk. If you can't do this, get on that stationary bike! Start out slow, and build up your times etc. You can also get excercise DVDs to do at home. I like Denise Austin and all of her videos. She has everything from cardio, pilates, yoga, 10 min toning, streching, and sculpting She is very positive, very encouraging and you don't feel like you're going to die at the end of the program. She also has an early morning show on Lifetime Network (8am Eastern--I think).

As far as your overall weight loss, 120#s is alot, but not impossible. Set goals for yourself--I started out to loose 10% of my body weight--I'm almost there. A reasonalbe weight loss is 2-3 lbs a week. Involve your spouse or a friend too--it's good to have some one to account to, and who can also encourage you! And don't give up when you have a bad week or day. Just resolve to do better tomorrow. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

PS--aviod diet pills they are bad! bad! and BAD!!

have you checked your BMI? is 120lbs realistic, your really that over weight? Its a lot to lose, and it will take you a long time to lose it safely.

May I suggest you cheat, just to get yourself on the right track, A decent weight loss pill will have you losing weight right away, and if you do everything your doing now, the extra walking , eating right then you should be able to stop talking the weight loss pill in 4-6 months and keep the weight off.

I suggest Proactol, you take it after you eat and it binds the fat and makes it so that your intestines don't absorb it, Unlike Hoodia, you don't get the runny trots(sorry) you do have more bowel movements though.
