I went to the dermatologist because my hair had gotten extremly thin, and they ran blood test and put my hair under the microscope and simply put using the professional oven and metal flat iron I was burning my hair. I've since bought an electric/ceramic flat iron so the temperature can be regulated and started taking NIOXIN, iron & calcium. I've also began deep conditioning. How long should it take before I get the thickness back and the NIOXIN begins to work. Also any other suggestions very welcome. Thanks.

Nioxin does take a while to work...as in weeks, months. It has taken years to make your hair so frail, so it will take time to build it back to it's previous glorious state.
I'm in agreement with the other answerers...back away from the heat products - at least for a while. Try going with the natural look. Towel dry your hair and add some leave-in conditioner such as the leave-in by Paul Mitchell (it's really good for your hair) and then add a light gel or mousse and scrunch. This way you are not adding to the damage. Try doing a search for naturally curly hair...there are all kinds of tips and tricks on www.naturallycurly.com for really curly to barely curly hair types but if you are trying save your hair some of the moisture building techniques may help you. Also, if your hair is long enough, maybe opt for a low ponytail or a headband and scrunched waves. Also, try using a wide toothed comb when your hair is wet, it reduced breakage. And when you do switch back to heat, go for ceramic plates and low heat hair dryers (CHI is excellent for both of these).
Just stay away from the heat products for everyday styles, save it for VERY special occasions and you should be alright in a couple of months.

Sorry to hear your having such trouble with your hair. If it's burned as bad as you say, it will take a long time for it to grow out. Hair grows about 1/8 inch every 24 hours, so depending on how long you wear your hair, you can figure out how long it will take. There is no way to repair burned hair, all you can do is keep it moist with conditioners. don't blow dry or use anything with alcohol in it on your hair. hair spray included. Cutting your hair on the increase of the moon will make it grow faster.Your looking at 2 to 3 years to regain a good healthy head of hair..Now that you know what you did wrong, don't do it again. Oh by the way, hair is almost 100% pure protein.

Try this. Cut your hair until you reach over the burn. But, if you burned your hair on top of your head try vitaman B. It gives your hair calcium. Also avoid shampoos, conditioners, hair products ect... with achlohal. Because, it will make your bured scalp twice as worse.

if you are straightening it, i would stop for a while with the flat iron and especially because how thin your hair is.
