Hey Bethan,

Marlow is English. Here is what James Wolf says on Swyrich.com:

Origin: English

Spelling variations of this family name include: Marlowe, Marloe, Marleau, Marlow and others.

First found in Cheshire where they were seated from very early times and were granted lands by Duke William of Normandy, their liege Lord, for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Nicholas and Jane Marleaw and their three children, who arrived in Virginia in 1630; Rebecca Marlowe, who came to New England in 1635; William Marlow, who settled in Maryland in 1656.
-------------
Family Search has 298 entries, and English is one of the predominant site. However, Germany, Denmark and other locations do have Marlow. I would tend to believe that the origin is English.

Marlow
habitational name from the place in Buckinghamshire on the Thames, named in Old English with mere ‘lake’, ‘pool’ + lafe ‘remnants’, ‘leavings’, i.e. a boggy area remaining after a lake had been drained.
possibly also a variant of Marley.

Marley
English: habitational name from any of the various places so called, for example in Devon, Kent, and West Yorkshire. According to Ekwall, the first element of these place names is respectively Old English (ge)m?re ‘boundary’, myrig ‘pleasant’, and mearð ‘(pine) marten’. The second element in each case is Old English leah ‘woodland clearing’. This surname was taken to Ireland by a Northumbrian family who settled there in the 17th century.
