Olive oil works really well. Put some on and let it soak for a while (maybe overnight?) and then wash baby's hair with a gentle baby shampoo. Almond oil is another good substitute.

The Johnson's baby oil works well, or they have a special lotion for cradle cap. Both right in the baby aisle. Just be sure to comb and work out the loose stuff so it doesn't keep building up. It's a pain in the butt I know, my youngest had it. I'm mom to 3.

In order to avoid overly drying out the little one's skin, you might want to keep the baby's baths down to 2 or 3 a week. Also, research your baby care products as infant skin is extremely sensitive and needs to most gentle products out there. Many baby care products (including wash and lotions) contain ingredients such as fragrance and mineral oil, the molecular structure of which is too large to penetrate the pores of skin, sitting on the top layer like saran wrap. Mineral oil is actually motor oil washed several times to make it clear. These products may cause irritation and get wiped off over time and give little to no benefit but rather a temporary feeling of softness. Baby's need pure, and safe water based products with the proper ingredients.

Arbonne has a great baby care line (hair and body wash, lotion, body oil, diaper rash cream, and sunscreen) that is botanically-based and pH correct, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, non-sensitizing, non-irritating, and formulated without nut oils. They are formulated with natural ingredients like oat flour which is an emollient and an emulsifier. It’s highly absorbent and hypoallergenic. Oat flour helps to soothe and soften dry, itchy and sensitive skin. I use Arbonne's baby care products on both of my children and have never had a problem with dry, irritated skin.

Baby oil works wonders(as well as any oil) it will loosen it up. Leave it on for several hours and then wash the head and scrub(not too hard of course) with a fine baby brush which will help it to break loose and come off.

I love the aveeno baby lotion. My son had it really really bad, and will still get it if I dont put any on for a while. I lather it all up on his head, then give him a little slick hair style :) Good luck!

If you have DHA capsules around break one open and rub it into your babies scalp during their bath. Then shampoo it out. DHA is a pill with fish oil inside. if you are breastfeeding take these pills otherwise if you are formula feeding ask you doctor about switching to a formula with DHA & RHA added to them.
This helped my babies scalp a lot!
