because it is solid black it will be more difficult to cover up. and the tattoo will have to be bigger than the original. whatever it is it will have to have something black in it to go with the S that is already there. she should look for things that she likes and take them to a tattoo artist and see what they can come up with to cover it.
keep in mind that not all tattoo artists are good at doing coverup tattoos.

A cover-up is quite a specialised tattoo - not only should it be good in its own right, but it has to effectively conceal what was there before. On a practical level, what this means is that cover-ups work best when they're unique, custom pieces designed in sympathy with what they're covering.

If the existing tattoo is black, then the cover-up will need to incorporate a dark area to hide it - but depending on the exact shape and size of what's already there, really clever designs can be created to avoid just having to have an enormous dark tattoo. The new tattoo will clearly need to be bigger than the old one, though.

I'd suggest that your friend think about what sort of subject matter she'd like in her new tattoo, and what styles of tattoo she likes, and then go along to an artist specialising in cover-ups for a consultation on what can be done.

Hope this helps - good luck to your friend!

If you find a good artist it should be able to be covered with pretty much anything, I have a tattoo on my arm larger then that and it is a rose with black tribal art and off to the left of it is my initial I thought I would be stuck with covering it with something black ......not so at all I am actually going to have it covered with a deep purple rose with bamboo in the background

My advice do some research and find a good artist that does cover up work.

Dont know where you are located at but here is a link

I'd think the best thing to do would be go to a couple of tattoo places. Ask the people who work there for recommendations. They have seen it all and done coverup work so they could have some nice suggestions. Then you also get to look through their fun book of work they have done. :0)

Hhmmm...what about a star, big enough to cover it? Or maybe A flower with leaves or vines coming out the sides to cover the stars?
