so i brought my 3 months old american bull dog puppy to the vet the other day to check out his eye
on the side of his cornea there is a white dot with a hair growing out of it. the vet told me that it might be a birth defect where the eye lid did not seperate from the eye when in the womb.
i just got him 3 weeks ago i called my breeder and he said its impossible because all the puppies where fully checked out.
the breeder is ligit i did my research carefully before buying.
my breeder also stated that one of his females had the same problem and it went away. PLEASE if someone has heard of anything like this let me know.
if he does have this birth defect.. its gonna cost 8000-9000 dollars and it must be done by a human eye specialist!!!

Your dog has something called a "dermoid" where there is skin-like tissue on the cornea (and hair grows out of it.....which is kinda gross ;)

It will not go away on its own, it is congenital (born with it) but it isn't a huge health concern. You do not need to go to a human eye specialist. Where do you live? There are veterinary ophthalmologists (you can search for one at www.acvo.org) all over the country in the United States and several around the world. This is a simple surgery to perform a superficial keratectomy to remove the dermoid under an operating microscope. It shouldn't cost more than $1,000-2,000 depending on where you live.

The breeder should be informed (send them pictures if they don't believe it!!!!!). Very few breeders have the eyes fully checked out in puppies, even in breed with multiple ocular problems, so they may have just missed it if it was small.

Since you have paid your vet to do the check up on your dog. Have him write a report specifying what he found wrong with the puppy.

Send report to the breeder and see where he wants to go from here.

You are probably better off to get yourself another puppy from this same breeder and return the puppy you have at this time.... it is done all the time in the dog world.
Birth defects can happen to anyone.

GOOD LUCK

Did the breeder give you a health guarantee? If so, then he has to take the dog back if you want him to - provided you can prove that you did not cause the injury/illness.

If he didn't give you ahealth guarantee and he continued to breed despite seeing birth defects in his dogs, then I'm sorry to say, he's not a legit breeder. You may have a civil case against the person, but you might not.

I've heard of inverted eye lids where the eyelash causes irritation. There is a surgical reedy but it costs no where near that amount of money. Personally,I would get a second opinion. Did your breeder give a health guarantee?

if the breeder was legit -- you should have the paper work from the vet who did the eye exam on your pup......if you do,, go see the same vet -- reputable breeders guarantee their pups genetic health....... i am sure the breeder will reimburse you for procedure which, by the way, I HIGHLY DOUBT costs 9000.00
