Are you asking what is a province? The Oxford dictionary defines it as "a principal administrative division of a country, etc.; the land outside a capital city, esp." Canada has both provinces and territories instead of states or cantons or shires, etc. Canada contains 10 provinces, and I happen to live in British Columbia, which is the farthest west and along the Pacific Ocean. The capital is the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island (provincial capital). While Ottawa in the province of Ontario is the capital of Canada (federal capital), the provincial capital of Ontario is Toronto.

Cheers,
