My sister is getting married and I'm the maid of honor. My dress is suppose to be different from the bridesmaids, but the place she is getting the dresses from do not have a different dress that coordinates with the others. I suppose to look different so she said my bouquet will look like hers. (WOW!) I want to stand out more (not taking the attention from her) just stand out a little more so I won't look so much like a bridesmaid. Any suggestions on what I can do?

I don't need any smart *** comments from anyone either. It was my sister's idea for me to ask for others opinion. I know I am not the bride but she also wanted me to look different as well and she didn't have any ideas.

Can you get a different dress in a similar color? Or the same dress in a different color? If neither of those, then what about something completely different that still coordinates?

In addition to a special bouquet, depending on the style of dress you can have a wrap or sash pinned with a pretty broach. I think adding an additional accent (jewelry, wrap, sash, etc.) should be plenty to distinguish you from the other bridesmaids if you are wearing the same dress. Another option is to look at another salon to find a coordinating dress. Since you are not a bridesmaid, getting a dress from a different dye lot is not going to be a big issue. And there is no set rule that everyone has to get their dress from the same salon if you are paying for your own dress. I would recommend sitting down and talking with your sister about some ideas and I'm sure the two of you will come up with something.

Since you will be the one walking in last before the bride, everyone will know you are not just a bridesmaid, that is the maid of honor's spot. Maybe your dress can be a different shade of the same dress the bridesmaids are wearing. Talk to your sister and see what she wants, after all it's her wedding.

You will stand out because of the order you walk in and your name will be listed as maid of honor in the program. Other ideas might be a different necklace maybe a nicer one (or any jewelry), wear your hair different, flowers will be good maybe you could have a small bouquet and the bridesmaids could just carry a single flower. Good luck but remember it really will be you that notices more than anyone most attention will be on the bride and groom!

I don't know what the dresses look like, but maybe (if she's using 2 different colors as her theme) you can get the other color fabric (not the same as the dress) and make it into a sash or a wrap or something. Or maybe use the fabric to tie a different color bow around your flowers. Or a matching headband or ribbon that the other girls aren't wearing...
just a few ideas.

You could do something different with your hair. You could wear different jewelry than what everyone else is wearing. Maybe you could get like a pin for your dress. Different shoes. There's all kinds of things you could do to make you a little different with out taking about the Brides thunder...lol :0)

you can do the same color dress in a slightly different style, having a different boquet is good idea, but i would still want to make sure it wasn't exactly like the brides, another option would be if all the other bridesmaids wear their hair up you wear your down or vice versa. it doens't have to be anything dramatic just a subtle difference works

How about a different hairstyle than the bridesmaids? Or if they're all wearing a certain shoe, you could wear something different than them (ex. heels instead of flats or vice versa). Maybe if it would compliment the dress you'll be wearing, you could wear some sort of shawl. Different jewelery than them, flowers in your hair.... that's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps!

If she has a color scheme, you can wear a different color. For instance...if her colors are banana and pink even if the bridesmaids dresses are banana you could wear pink...just an idea

Add a sash to your dress, the sash should compliment the wedding colors. That's what I did for my moh. Hope this helps.
