I was a Christian apologist for around ten years. I feel like kicking myself, after realizing that my sources were all limited!

I used to argue against Evolution and for the legitimacy of the Bible, etc.

Until I realized that all my information was coming from the same place! Christianity! My Christian resources were the same ones every Christian uses - the same ministries, the same data!

Well, in my research, I stumbled across some information that was NOT from my usual sources - it was from a simple Atheist website. From there, I uncovered debates between Christians and atheists where the Atheists actually won!

One by one, as I researched my precious "evidences" for Christianity's legitimacy, My sacred cows were shot down! Every one of them!

Finally, I had no choice, but to abandon my sweet, sweet Jesus and face the facts that this religion (as well as Islam and Judaism) was false. There just was no question.

So if you want to remain a Christian, don't explore too much!

If you look far enough you'll find trouble, fools, brigands and even less information argued more vociferously.

Frankly, I'm a little discouraged. We (Christendom) seems to have failed in providing you a decent education. I mean, if you believe what you read on the web, and let it tear apart your faith, we (your pastor, your congregation, your family, your community) did a terrible job in preparing you. Shame on us. Sorry about that.

Go ahead and join the ranks of angry ex-Christians, you're free to do so, and shoot down the 'sacred cows' (an idea unfamiliar in Christendom, but you seem to not like it) we all hold so dear, so one day we can have our eyes opened that life is a bunch of lies, and we should just kick back with a beer, knowing there's nothing more real that the air we breathe and the earth beneath our feet, that we are an accident of historical evolution, that love cannot be justified and neither can morality for that matter, because there is no objective truth. There's really nothing at all. One trip around the world, and kaput, all for naught.

If only we'd taught you skepticism, instead of letting you be devoured by the wolves of the world. Our bad. Sorry we let you down.

If you were an apologist for 10 years, I am wondering why you never read any of the extra biblical evidences and proofs of the Christian faith. There is quite a bit of it. Every time I have examined the basis for my faith, I was confirmed that mine was not a blind faith but one built upon reason and evidence. Perhaps it is just because I have been studying longer (about 20 years now) or more thouroughly than you did.

I also have read papers and debates from athiests, agnostics, apologists, and everyone inbetween. And still everything I have studied still points me in the same direction; that there is a God, that he did create the universe (though I'm not as clear on the "how"), and that he did send Jesus to redeem mankind in general and me specifically.

I think that perhaps you did not have a very solid understanding of the evidences for Christianity so if you would like to discuss them, be happy to do so.

I'm sad for you. When Jesus separates the goats from the lambs, you will be cast out with the goats. Knowing the truth and then turning away is way worse than ever knowing it. Of course as Jesus often said, they were never really with us. I've been a Christian for 40 years, have studied from many sources, so do not consider myself uneducated. As the saying goes, let God be true and all men liars.

You may have abandoned Jesus, but you will still bow your knee and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus!!!

I understand what you are saying.

Still, realize that Christians are starting from a basic assumption: God exists. Atheist also start with an assumption: God does not exist. Each one will find things to support their arguments.

You can find resources of every kind that will support either assumption. But in the end, it comes down to what you believe. If your belief or disbelief in God is based on the best-sounding arguments, you're still missing a basic tenet of Christianity: faith.

Louis Pasteur is quoted as saying that "a little science takes man away from God, but a lot of science will bring him back."

There are many Christian scientists who have no problem believing in God and studying His creation...and many stories of die-hard atheist who had amazing reversals of their beliefs. Look into C. S. Lewis and Lee Strobel for a few examples of men who were earnestly seeking the truth wherever it could be found.

One thing you must remember, The church's are using all the false teachings of the catholic church.

The church used the bible to count the yrs. of the earth, they do not have all the books... They say and teach them to be intact preserved by God.

This is completely false Jesus said His true ministry would be changed so much that when he returns will he find any real faith....even the apostle Paul waned IN THE BOOK OF Acts. THAT THE MINUTE, He left his word would be changed..

No church teaches Jesus taught to the order of Melchizedek, nor the doctrine of Johns baptisim, the very doctrines Jesus himself was baptized in.

you have not heard of Jesus taught to the order of Melchizedek...

This is restoring Jesus' rightful priesthood and the doctrine of the baptism of John..

Jesus' true ministry went into your religion or no religion, it also had nothing to do with sexual orientation, It has all to do with Spiritual orientation only.

Yawn. I have LOTS of books. All about different things!

My book on ten-dimensional space/string theory, 'Hyperspace' by Dr. Michio Kaku, is on the same shelf as my copy of 'Catholicism for Dummies' by Rev. John Trigilio, Jr., PhD, ThD, and Rev. Kenneth Brighenti, PhD.

I do not believe that being religious/a (shock horror) creationist precludes me from being a rational scientist.

I have been exploring for 50 years, was a minister in 6 different churches, served as a missionary, and am college educated. Everything you have said about Christianity is false and I encourage everyone to explore all they want.

The reason why athiest always win is because they are so narrow minded in there belief, and they don't want to face the fact that the law is still binding and they will argue and always appear to be winning untill they are put in the ground or something drastic comes in there life. I'm a SDA, and I love God with all my heart, and God has blessed me with discernment and knowledge that has just drawn me closer to Him. So just pray and ask God to guide you, thats what I did... :)

I was raised Southern Baptist. I now call myself "spiritual" but not religious. I also spent years researching to come up with my OWN answers. To answer your question, I believe that Christians only use one source of knowledge because that is what they are told to do. They are told that the Bible is the ONLY true source. It is repeated so often that it becomes a "belief". I heard recently that beliefs are simply the same thoughts thought over and over and over.

Romans 1 verse 25 "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than The Creator who is forever praised. Amen"
