One rule is that you're not supposed to eat 4 hours before going to sleep.

Another is that you're not supposed to stuff yourself with big meals.

I don't know about you people, but if I want to not eat 4 hours before bed, I have to completely stuff myself at dinner. Otherwise, I have to eat something before bed, or I can't sleep because I'm so hungry!

Any advice at all will help. If it's advice on the eating, the getting to sleep... anything involving this will help.

Stuff yourself a little bit less and include more raw vegetables (they are the hardest thing to digest). Then at bedtime, have a small glass of orange juice and some celery - a lot of it if necessary. By doing both you will be surpressing your appetite (the juice) while filling your stomach with the hardest thing it can digest (raw vegetables) -all the while adding hardly any calores at all - celery is said to take more calories to digest than they actually provide - so you are even helping your diet in that regard too.

The first rule is generally not valid. Is it really a health rule or is it something your mother, or somebody else, told you when you were a child.

Generally, have something light — a nutritious snack — about a half hour or so before bedtime. See that it is balanced. For example, a piece of bread or toast, a single hard boiled egg (protein), a banana. Eat things that are easy on your stomach. For example, I wouldn't try salsa before bedtime. Don't stuff yourself or do unliimited snacking (better to put out a few things rather than have packages that you dip into). Try to get out of the habit of snacking during the whole of the evening after supper (if you do that) and instead provide for a single, balanced, light snack before you go to bed.

Not stuffing yourself, at any time, is a very good habit and you should keep that rule.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

I don't know where you are getting these "rules" from, but it does not matter so much when you eat as what you are eating. Here are some basic guidelines to follow.

1-When you eat less and move more you will loose weight.

2-Eat smaller portions--eating on a smaller plate or dividing the portion you are given in half is helpful.

3-Drink at least 64 oz of water a day--water helps the body metabolize fat. It will also help you feel fuller when you eat. Many times too, being thirsty will manifest itself as being hungry. Drink water before you eat, and see if your hunger goes away--if it returns in 10 mins you are really hungry.

4-Cut out as much processed food, refined sugars, fats etc. (This inculdes mixed coffees/teas, sodas, fruit juices, snack foods, many cold cereals, crackers, chips etc.)

5-Eat whole foods such as fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and fat-free or low fat dairy. Cereals with at least 3g of dietary fiber are considered "high fiber". Fiber and protien digest slower, so they last longer and help you feel full.

6-Eating six smaller meals in a day instead of 3 big ones will help you feel content during the day and will lessen the urge to binge eat.

7--Don't let yourself get so hungry that you reach for anything you can find. Plan out when you will eat and what you will eat. Make a shopping list and stick to it!

8--Take a mulit-vitamin, and try to get at least 2 servings of healthy oils a day. Healthy oils are found in nuts, avacados, oilve/canola oils. Your body does need some fat to maintain cell structure and healty hair, nail and skin growth.

9--When you eat, eat slowly and asses how hungry you are as your meal progresses. Stop eating when you feel satisified--not full. If you feel hungry later on, you can always go get more. Start your meals with a fruit or a veggi serving--these will fill you up and so you will eat less of your main dish.

10--Always eat breakfast! Breakfast helps to keep your metabolism at a constant level. When you eat a good breakfast you are less likely to binge during the day.

11-Aviod diet pills and supplements. They can increase your blood pressure and raise your heart rate to unsafe levels. Many times when you quit using the diet pill, you will gain the weight right back.

12--Loosing weight should be more than just dropping pounds. For your weight loss to really be effective you have to make life style changes--that is not letting bad habits or guilty pleasures rule your life, committing to excercise and healthy eating habits.

Good luck.

It's more important not too eat too much - rather than when you eat it.

Eat a decent dinner - not a huge one, and a smaller snack later.

Many people find that if you eat 5 smaller meals during the day it is easier to balance your hunger. But it is often difficult to limit your intake at night.

Hope that helps!

You can eat a big meal without it being too much. Just make sure that it includes lots of vegetables....green leafy ones in particular. If you eat a ton of carbs it slows your body down. It's okay to eat a serving of bread, potatoes, rice, or pasta, but don't overdo it on that stuff.
If you have to eat a snack before bedtime make it a healthy one: carrots, celery, fresh fruit, yogurt. These things energize not slow down your body.

Both of those things are hard to do but they are key in losing weight.
Try having a cup of tea before bed or even having sugar free hot chocolate. When you drink/eat something warm it suppresses your appetite

Restrain yourself. Or just don't eat starchy stuff 4 hours before bed. Eat fruits or vegetables.
