Because it's up to the government to decide what people can do and what they can't.
Which really makes no sense. If you're an alcoholic then you probably have shitloads of alcohol stashed in your house.
It's just an unfair discrimination against people who like to / have to stay up at nights. If you think about it, it's really just another of the thousands of incentives the government gives to the people on the "nice" list who are sleep at nights and are ready for work at 9 am to serve as a cog in their system :).

I'm from Buffalo, NY, our bars are open until 4. You can pretty much buy alcohol anytime. There's some law about buying alcohol before noon on Sunday though.

Laws are different for every state. Here in Nevada you can buy alcohol 24 hours a day.

It's the darned blue laws. Every state can make them up. Which sucks if you get home from work at 3:30 a.m. and want a beer. Gotta have some future planning there.

2 am, you are lucky! Here in Colorado, most liquor staores close by 11:00 pm, and bars don't serve drinks past 12:00 am. It's just part of the State's liquor laws.

Some Chicago bars are open til 4am, 5am on Sunday mornings. Also some bars open as early as 7am, can't open til 11am on Sundays tho.

I was in Mississippi recently and many bars are 24-7.

Plan your binge drinking accordingly. Bottoms up.

Cause America thinks we shouldn't. Odd, isn't it...you can't buy liquor after 2, but you can start buying it at 7am... just another jackass law.

Because it is a curfew set for alcoholics and people who act irresponsibly by drinking and driving and endangering the lives of innocent people, thereby changing forever the lives of family members and causing pain and heartache that NEVER goes away. My family and I are victims of a drunk driver. The aftermath of such tragedy is horrendous. The peace I have found is in Jesus Christ. May God forgive the man who killed my daughter. May God forgive you if you do the same.
