Near the water bowl that I usually leave out for the birds to bathe and drink in, I found about 15 little clumps of grass left by the birds. I know it might be silly to ask why, but I thought it was really strange that they did that.

The squirrels (and sometimes a stray cat or two) also drink from the same bowl, and I also throw bread out for the birds in the winter.

Are you certain that it was the birds. I have several bird baths, and have never seen this behaviour by birds.

Cats often eat grass, it aids digestion, and upchuck it later.
Perhaps that could be it.
