If you have your blood checked, you might compare your readings with normal levels. The normal potassium level is 3.5-5.0 mEq/L (this is a measure used to evaluate the level). Low potassium is defined as a potassium level below 3.5 mEq/L.

The above answer is correct, but this is not a strict range, as you can be say 3.3 and still be considered ok. And some people who have other chronic diseases may have a different range that is considered acceptable, eg in chronic kidney disease you could accept a level higher than 5. some things may make the potassium level appear higher than it really is. So the context is important.
