We have become a weak society. It's just easier to turn our heads and let someone else worry about it.But hell ya it is time to stand up!! So many of our kids have had thier lives torn apart by these sick preverted people and no one has helped them.
Lets grow a backbone people! We are far to worried about the stupid ****.Like second hand smoke that will take years to harm our kids if at all.But things that are hurting them now we are like oh no big deal.Wouldn't it be nice for Goverment canidates worried more about the real issues?

Society wants to believe that child molesters will become rehabilitated and get over their illness. Until the system treats it for what it is, a mental illness, they will not be rehabilitated. They only go to prison and learn new approaches in an effort not to get caught again. There are too many parents that excuse the behavior of the molesting adult or parent. There aren't enough protecting parents in this world.
I personally know a lady that was molested for several years as a child by her father. She told her mom only to be blamed for turning him on. The girl finally received help from school officials and had him incarcerated. When he was released, only a couple of years later, can you guess where he went. He went back to the loving and accepting arms of this girl's mother, in the same home with his daughter again. And people have nerve enough to wonder why our young ladies find it so difficult to have healthy relationships.

I have struggled with a crippling paranoia about child molesters my whole life. I feel that the sickest of the sick are the ones who treat children in this way.
That said, I do truly beleive that these people were harmed and in a sense taught to act this way. This is a subconcious thing that has manifested itself in ways that only the good psychologists can understand. I think instead of simply incarcerating them for a short time and releasing them after the trauma of being locked away, we should look at immediate and deep treatment for them.
Until they accept and work through the trauma of having been molested themselves they cannot be reintroduced into society.
I do agree that molesters do need to be kept away from greater society, but only until healing has occured.

It's ironic that you just posted this as I just sent a 3 page letter to George and Mrs. Bush about it.
It makes me sick to think of my son ever being harmed and especially when I hear about the horrible things done to other children out there. I can't even bear the thought of someone harming my child, yet, it is out there and we as parents need to do something about it.
Ohio just adopted a law where known molestors must use a neon green license plate on their cars. That is a start, but not nearly enough!
As a child, I did not have the power or the voice to protect myself against certain adults who hurt me. Now, as a mother, you can bet your life I will do whatever it takes to protect my son. It is way overdo that something more major be done.
And why oh why are we keeping them in prison. They will never be rehabilitated? They live off taxpayers money and when they are free, they end up killing a child. If they have to stay in prision, why aren't they castrated? It makes sense. Think about it.
Anyway, good queston. It makes me so mad! Soemthing does need to be done and even if they don't respond to my letter, at least it is a start. I won't give up either.

That's the way the legal system works. You get convicted of a crime, sentanced to your time in prison and once you've served your time it's assumed that your debt to society has been repaid and you're let out.
And you can't say that they "never" get over it. I'm sure that there are people who have been rehabilitated. Maybe the majority of people relapse, but not all. It wouldn't be fair to the people who have been rehabilitated to keep them locked up just because of what other people have done.
If you were to just lock them up and throw away the key, someone would have to find the money to pay for that. As far as I'm concerned, we all pay enough taxes already.
Do you want this same idea to be applied to murderers and rapists? If we're going to be extra hard on child molesters, why not do it to all criminals?

There are many people that believe that they can be rehabilitated. Now this is not normally the case. The man that raped and buried Jessica Lunsford (Florida) alive, he had been previously incarcerated. He told them not to release him, that he would do it again, but there are people who do not want to believe that people can truly be that evil. They want to think the best. They also have never had something like this hit close to home. I would almost guarntee that if it happened to them, a family member or close friend that it would probably change their minds.

Vermont has the lightest sentencing on child molesters. It makes me sick. They pretty much just get a slap on the wrist. The ACLU protects NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) and "their right" to molest boys. People need to become more aware of these organizations and try to stop them.

nice thought but if lets say life imprisonment was given would you be willing to pay higher taxes to pay for this...people say yes they would but if came to a fact people would be outraged that their taxes were to go up..also where would you build the facilities...eventually you would run out of open space and then the "not in my backyard" speeches would start...best you can do for now is educate yourself about where offenders are living once they are released, educate your children about strangers and do lot let your child outside alone, know who their friends are and stuff like that
