We don't seem to be able to find any open seats for Delta but I've been wondering about the mechanics of using the miles for a "partner" airline. I think Continental is a partner but don't know how to use the Delta miles on Continental. Any help would be appreciated.

Just call Delta and ask them to look for available seats in the CO system. Even though you are looking for a CO flight you still call Delta since they are the ones holding the miles.

Continental Airlines and Delta Airlines are both members of SkyTeam Alliance, so the frequent flyer miles can be used with both airlines.

It should work fine. Not only is Continental Airlines one of Delta's codeshare partners, but also a member of the SkyTeam alliance, as is Delta. Go to their websites, and contact them. I'm sure they will be able to give you all the help you need.

Yes you can, those airlines are both part of the same alliance (SkyTeam) so you can use Delta miles on Continental. Actually, Continental is a better airline than Delta anyway.

Northwest Airlines is also part of the SkyTeam alliance.
