No one can answer this question for you. You haven't told us anything about your work schedule, your financial situation, your lifestyle, your activity level, your home situation, etc. Any answers you get will just be uneducated guesses from children on if huskies are good for you or they'll be telling you their favourite dog - dogs that may be a terrible match for you.

Huskies can be mean - if bought from a bad breeder or if not raised correctly. They also tend to be quite a handful. They are runners, so they have to be leashed at ALL times. The can be jumpers, so a fence must be completely secure. They love the family life, but can also be trouble makers. They also need exercise. Playing frisbee for 15 minutes a day WILL NOT cut it. A good dog trainer and lots of time is recommended if you want one. http://www.shca.org/ is a great resource to teach you a little more about the breed and whether or not they fit your lifestyle.

Then, the next best thing you can do is visit a shelter or rescue group and see if a dog fits your needs. http://www.petfinder.com The next best thing is to watch a dog show - they are constantly on Animal Planet and USA and write down maybe 10 breeds that appeals to you. From there, visit http://www.akc.org and go to the "breed" area. On the left will be a link to the breed flyer, breed club, and breed rescue group. Click on each one and learn as much about the breed as possible.

From there if you decide you want a purebred puppy, read sites like

http://dogplay.com/gettingdog/index.html...
and
http://www.geocities.com/bluegracepwd/wh...

to help you find a reputable breeder.

Good luck to you

Huskys are very active dogs. If you want a dog to run and play all day long this is the dog for you. Make sure you have a fenced yard. Huskys can escape from anywhere. They also can be lap dogs but need alot of excercise. Any dog could be mean if you make it mean. Huskys are not typically mean dogs by nature, but dont buy from a bad breeder, it might be just as any dog would be.

There are sertain things that you need to own a Husky. A fenced backyard (fencing at 6ft). You have to be a active person. Your dog will need to be walked for at least 45 minutes in the morning, and 1 hour at night. This is including when it snows, when it rains and even if it is -20c. This type of dog is active. If you don't walk or exercise him, you can expect an extremely agitated dog, who will chew on everything it can find.

Also, You have to get a trainer for this breed. Huskies are notorious for taking off, escaping from yards, running after cars, and sometimes, never coming home again. So? He needs to be trained with patience and persistence. They are not an easy dog to train. Even the best trained Husky still needs to be on a leash...I've rarely met any Husky owner who dares to take the leash off.

I owned a Siberian Husky for 14 years. When she past away last year, it was my families sadest day. She was a great dog, but she drove us crazy, as well. She took off from home, jumped 6ft fences, ate the neighbors rabbit...and chewed a sofa apart. And I was very involved with training. But I know the Huskies limits. Sometimes you think that a two hour walk in a ravine is enough...but it may not be.

Do your research, and prepare yourself. Read the good and bad aspects. I only hope that you are an experienced dog owner. Because like the Terriers, the Huskies need someone with experience.

Good Luck!

Husky's aren't mean, they're prtective and territorial. Breeding dogs have a tiny agression problem towards young children, if they're not raised around them.

Husky's can get to be pretty big dogs, and they shed like a bad wig LOL!!!! If they have proper training and exersize, they're actually very good dogs. A friend of mine has one, and she's a very sweet dog, when they're home. When she's outside on her chain, or no one is home, she's icredibly territorial. She's gone after a few kids, because they tease her, or they get to close to her house.

Depending on what personality you have, and how much time you have depends on what type of dog you should get. If you have kids, a retriever or a lab is great with kids.
A pitbull actually makes a great family dog, if it's trained right, and socialized as a pup. I have a pit, and a 3 yo son who practically abuses my dog, and my dog will look at him like "are you done yet?'', or he'll get up and hide from him. My dog is submissive to me and my family, so we don't have problems with him. However, he's been teased by kids, and has bit 2 kids, and tries to go after other kids. But that's any breed of dog, not just the pitbull. I have a mutt who didn't like young kids, because he was teased. He almost got out of our yard one day trying to get to the neighbor's kids.
Great danes are good with kids, and they make great guard dogs.
I wouldn't go with a rotty or doberman, or any other herding dog. They have a tendancy to try and herd young children, and sometimes will bite the kids if they don't go where the dog wants them to. There are some exeptions to that tho. Collie's are great with kids and they're herding dogs.

Small dogs are usually not good with yound kids, because they are so high strung, and the kids want to play. Plus they tend to be kinda baby-ish, and expect to sit in your lap alot, or to be carried. They also tend to be agressive towards kids, and they are territorial with all animals, and oft times with people. They make great pets for couples with no kids, a single person living in a 1-2 bedroom apt, or an elderly person.

Not all the hype about "mean dogs" is true. You have to do some research if you want the right kind of dog for you. Alot of people will tell you to go to a vet and talk to them about it. Others will tell you to just walk into the pound and get the one that reaches out to you the most.

Here's a few links to some dog pickin sites lol. They should help you to pick the right breed for you. They also have some pretty good info on one of them. It has like, fighting dogs, herding dogs, and so on.

It's been my experience that a mutt makes a better dog then a pure bred most of the time. Good luck to you!!!!!

It depends on your lifestyle. Husky's are working dogs so they need a lot of exercise and room to run so a fenced in yard is best. They can be good guard dogs but generally aren't mean. Any dog can be made to be mean but who would want that? They also require a good deal of grooming, especially in the summer. Because of their thick coat, the heat can cause them to dehydrate quickly when outside so always keep a good supply of water when the dog is outside and grooming will keep loose hair thinned and keep the dog cooler. More info about your lifestyle could help us better help you think of dogs to choose from.

They are not mean at all, why do you want one because they look good? better do some study on all breeds before you decide what to get, you have a dog for a long time,Also a lot depends on what sort of breed you like. An remember a dog is as only as good as it's owner. :)

nah they aren't mean, but they do shed a lot! Check out the links below...one is about huskies, the other is a dog breed selector. Do the test. Its fun and will give you some breed choices based on what you want.
