Just wondering what people thought of the government scheme to microchip people. Would you mind having a small implant under your skin so you never got lost and they could easily identify you when you had to go to the docs? Or even better... you'd never need to carry any money or documents with you.

Or... is it a complete infringement on your rights as a human being?

There is a company in Florida named Ricoh, who has the technology to implant microchips in humans. These would allow for satellite tracking when activated.

I can see pros and cons to such a system. On the good side, when someone kidnaps a child, the chip could be activated and lead authorities to the kid immediately. On the bad side, who knows what else the government, or other entities, would use it for. Too much power for the wrong hands.

Yes, I probably would. And not just because I dress as a cyberpunk anyway. A lot of identity problems would be eliminated at a stroke, and sure, why not include electronic money in the chips too. If the supermarkets use special RFID chips in their items, all you'd have to do is pick up the items, and the exit doors would scan your body and the chips in the items, and you wouldn't even have to speak to a cashier, much less try to fish out the correct change. Just walk out.

There are, of course, downsides. Privacy. Security. The possibility of an electrical fault. That sort of thing. But consider how many million people are in whatever country you live in, throughout the world. The government are never going to be able to keep track of everyone. The computing power to do that would be insane, not to mention all the people who would have to be employed to montior it!

They'd have to have a reason to track you. And let's face it, if the government has a reason to track you, in today's world of CCTV and satellite surveillance, they're going to track you anyway.

...and after this post, they're probably going to start tracking me, too. :P

it somewhat is basically a microchip they put in your ARM (not your concepts) that incorporates an on the spot test of all your scientific suggestions in case of an emergency. on an identical time because it could song your area, it has not something to do with zombies. Its not a stupid conspiracy concept however, i'm specific that someplace interior the destiny somebody could attempt to make a greater stepped forward microchip as some form of alternative for an identity. in case you get in problem with the police, purely test and you're pointed out.

I think its an infringment, defo. Actually inserting a chip under your skin could be classed as actual bodily harm. Good idea for paedos and rapists and stuff, make them bleep when they come near. Ps microchips are not the same as tracking devices

That question has been asked for years and years and has 2 sides to the argument. On the one side, you have big brother watching your every move, infringing on your right to privacy. On the other hand, it would make missing children (people)easier to find. Criminals wouldn't be able to hide from the law and we would feel safe. So, in respect to both sides, I vote chip the criminals first and see how it works. If it works good, chip the children and maybe we won't lose any.

I have my 11 year old cat micro-chipped. Didn't want to have it done at first, but it was the regulations on post at Fort Knox. I think its a good idea for some animals, like outside pets, or ones that could be stolen, such as purebreds.

No, i will never do that. First of all it reminds me about Devil's Mark from Bible and second i don't think it will bring more security. Who will keep all records? How they will be managed? My neighbour just went trough a nightmare of the "identity theft": someone got hold JUST on National Insurance number and address... And my neighbour had to prove loads of stuff and it was long and difficult, trust me!

I'd definatly get it done.

I mean, what if I died, or needed to be instantly authorized for something?

I wouldn't be worried if it was compulsary, but my mate Stephen would cause a riot. Depends on who you ask.
