You make those things as the rules, always make them do those things, never slack. The way children learn the most though is by watching what their parents do.

Well mannered and respectful need to be started very young, they learn by example so if you manners and are respectful they will catch on, and make sure you reinforce there actions (i.e. "say thank you, did you say your welcome) thats the easy part of raising a kid. Getting them to listen is easy when they are young, its when they are exposed to other kids is when it gets tough. Just remember follow through with every action you tell them your going to take, they know a sucker when they see one and have no problem using it to their advantage.

The most important....be the sort of person you want your kids to be. No matter how often you "tell them" things..they WILL learn by example and they will pattern their behavior after the people they are around the most. If you are respectful to others...teachers..police..store employees, etc, then your kids learn to respect others by watching you..how you handle yourself in bad situations and with difficult people. On the other hand, if you TELL them to be respectful but you are rude and nasty to others, they will think you are a hypocrite and instead of doing what you say, they will most likely do what you do. :-)

I'm pretty sure my big sister was the "trial and error person" lol
I'm the second time around, they corrected a few things, but theres more room for improvement
practice makes perfect. =P

On A more serious note
.Teach them right from wrong at an early age.
Give them some responsibilities and also rewards for doing things right. Thats to answer you're question...but if you want them to be...idk HAPPY? thats another thing.
well i'm to lazy to think up more things right now.. so bye.

Model by your example and this will train them to do all those things as well as anything else you want them to learn.
Also.....
Homeschool them if possible. If not, be aware you can opt out of any objectionable classes in the public schools.

If you raise them with those rules, it will always stay with them. They may stray through the teenage years but if it's instilled in them through their life, they'll return to those morals. You have to be firm with the rules AND the consequences of breaking those rules. If you're a softy, they'll walk all over you!

Modeling behavior, being consistent, giving them limits.
A child is not spoiled by the amount of things you give him but rather by the lack of parameters or guidelines.
Lots of love!

When they are teenagers, only with God's help and constant prayer. Well, from when they are born, but especially then. I'd also get them and yourself into a scout program.
