there are a few atheists on this site, and a lot of them make very good points, thought provoking and erudite. however, of those who condem followers of gods, why do they target christians only, what do they think of muslims, or buddhists or sihks?

Christians and many other religions that are very similar (and come from the same common point of origin) are also in many cases the original religions for atheists.

The reason is simple:

If you belong to a religion (usually because your family belongs to it) and you don’t agree, and you end up not believing in anything, you become an atheist. But the problem is, what religions are ok with you leaving?

Usually none, but those I just mentioned above are the ones that will let you leave. The rest, more likely will have hunters after you trying to make your life impossible or even worse: kill you.

Since in “civilized” countries you don’t see that kind of “hate” around, there are more atheists there (like here in the US). And what religions are the main ones in those “civilized” countries. Again, the ones mentioned above.

So what religions atheists know better? Again, those we are talking about, and of course, they will target those much more than others.

Of course this is not the only explanation and is not a rule, but in general, is hold true.

You know, I'm not an atheist, but I dont belong to any specific religion, because none of them satisfy me. I am also not agnostic because I know exactly what I believe.

So I'm in the religious black spot.

But there is a problem with atheists that they will never ever try to address.
Science is all well and good.
I like it.
But it doesn't tell you things that satisfy you.
Science tells you things are believed to be true and factual.

This is what atheists hold.
They can tell you what the Universe is made of, and what it looks like and how much it weighs, and how bright it is, and the way in which is moves.

Science doesn't, has never, and will never, tell us WHY the world in which we live does all of those things.
As far as atheists are concerned, they dont care. They dont need to know why. They just need to know how, and where, and when.

I can do that for you.
But I have another question I could answer for you.
Atheists can't.
Not because they couldn't find the answer, but because they refuse to look for it.

So I ask you, how can an atheist have a good argument when they wont answer all the questions?

An extremist of ANY belief system is a detriment to society.

They do not target Christians only but many Christians openly condem Atheists/other paths so I'm not surprised that Christians would recieve the most vocal backlash.

i'm pretty sure Buddhists don't worship gods so that takes care of that.

The so called 'religion' of Buddhism is more like a life philosophy, and does not dogmatically preach a superior being of any sorts. I applaud Buddhism.

However, any religion that is dogmatic and refuses to argue for their beliefs in a coherent , manner shall be struck by the hand of atheist argument. If there is something atheists detest it is the blind following of a belief and the disability to question those beliefs.
Christians, who are a majority on this board, feel offended if you raise a questionable point of their religion, and can often be found damning others to Hell, or suggesting that they will burn for all eternity for their beliefs. No other religion is so offensive, and that is why Christians get it harder than others.

Of course, no ALL Christians are like this. But there's enough of them to make them the butt of jokes and insults, and to justify baiting them with sarcastic comments to see how they will react.

Buddhists don't believe in a god so they're automatically exempt.

Atheists aren't a religion. That's like saying bald is a hair color. We may be very zealous, but we're not doing anything on blind faith.

And christians are the majority and the ones who typically get their way and have been trying to subvert the constitution and make it pro-christian. They're the ones who try to force their dogmatic stone age myths on the rest of us through politics, and those who have (in some instances) quite literally declared war on secular America. They're the ones we should try and reach.

Firstly, there are more than just a "few" Atheists on this site.

Secondly, the majority of us refer to Theists as just that, or "Believers". I haven't really noticed that Atheists are "targeting" Christians.

From a personal perspective, I have found that more Christians on Y!A are antagonistic than any other religion. I have only seen a few "ATHEISTS: YOU ARE DOOMED!!!!" type of messages from Muslims.

Obviously there are more Christians that post here than adherents to other religions.

We seem to get along well with Pagans and Buddhists.

I'm sorry if we are unable to condemn your religion. But you see other than the Christian religion all others are so insignificant they aren't worth bothering with by Atheists. We do take a swipe at Muslims occasionally but they have so many haters already that they aren't worth bothering with. We let the Christians concentrate on the other religions so we Atheists can focus on the most significant religion in the bunch, Christians. Some Buddies claim to be Atheists but they are not. They still believe in dragon's and all of that supernatural crap. That pretty much tells it.

Well of course we must all work to a quota system.

There are 5.6 Christians for every Buddhist, and 91 Christians for each Sikh.

To aid this process and based on rough world belief numbers: The evenhanded condemner should ideally ensure that -

for every one insulting remark made about Sikhs:

16 remarks insulting Buddhists should be posted.
56 remarks insulting Muslims should be posted.
91 remarks insulting Christians should be posted.

However it should equally be noted that this would also generate at least 47 remarks insulting Atheists.

I don't know. But I do know that we christians are a lot more loving and helpful than those other religions. We pray for the atheists and try really hard to help them find God. That is truly the best gift you can give anyone! But we also do more to help the world! We fight abortion and gay and try to spread the message of Jesus to the whole world, even countries that never even heard of him or the Bible (I know! Can you imagine?). I personally think atheists and those other religions are kinda the same. They are lost and need our prayers and God's forgiveness!! Maybe thats why they stick together on YA!

I dont target any religion in particular. I answer individual questions that hold interest to me. I am no fan of Islam, but I do have a fear that our society is treating muslims in a parrallel way to Germany's treatment of the Jews, so I tend to not get into that.
