How come I don't go deaf when I listen to gospel music?

My brother has a bluegrass (acoustic) gospel band. Even being an atheist, I enjoy hearing their songs.

I know what you mean, I keep waiting to get stuck by lightning everytime I walk into or out of a Christian church.... but then again I don't really think it will happen to me.
