No one can tell if you have strep without taking a throat culture. But if your glands are swollen, you do have an infection of some kind. Going on a trip without seeing your doctor is just foolish.

The best advice is to go see a doctor......if you seriously just cannot do that then at least do this:
gargle with hot/warm salted water every hour and every four hours gargle with aspirin dissolved in some lukewarm water. The salted water will kill the bacteria that are on the surface and the aspirin with keep the inflammation down. If you religiously do this for a couple days you will be soon on the road to recovery. However, if you do experience any fever and/or chills you MUST see a doctor because that would definitely indicate a throat infection that is spreading.

Strep throat is a throat infection caused by streptococcus bacteria. It is characterized by sore throat, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes in the neck – symptoms are sore throat, fever, inflammation of the tonsils etc. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. Go to the emergency room(now!) than, at your local hospital ,and have them phone a prescription in to a pharmacy in the town that you are traveling to. Or(This is serious)-call a doctor where you are going to-long distance- and tell them that you have strep throat so you can get treated as soon as you get there.

I would advise you to seek medical attention somewhere before you leave for your trip. Strep throat is highly contagious, so best to get checked out.
