Both of my parents are Jamaican and my mom said that I have citizenship in Jamaican because her and my father were born there, but I was born in the US. I looked for answers online, but didn't find much. I saw one website that said if both of your parents were citizens of another country when you were born then yes, you have dual citizenship. But a friend told me that the US does not recognize dual citizenship, its not that they don't allow it, its just that they only recognize you as a U.S. citizen. At the time I was born both of my parents were citizens so would I apply to the dual citizenship statement.

If I did apply under U.S. law, would I apply under Jamaican law?

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP AND TIME!

When I said citizen, I meant that they were US citizens when I was born.

You are officially an american citizen if you are born on US soil.
The US does actually recognize dual citizenship with countries they have agreements about it.
I am not sure about Jamaica. Your parents might actually have transmitted the Jamaican citizenship to you because of family ties. Still to be verified, however, it does not mean the US recognize the Jamaican nationatlity for its dual citizenship status.
You can verify in the www.bcis.gov website treating with immigration and naturalization issues.

Not automatically. You are an American Citizen by birth. There are some countries that will permit a dual citizenship. But, research it well. You may have real tax and income headaches.

Good luck.

No matter what, you are a US Citizenship unless you denounce you US citizenship. As for Jamaican citizenship you would need to review the Jamaican Laws.

Unless you parents were qualifying Jamican gov't representatives, for instance: ambassadors, at the time of your birth you are a U.S. citizen.

I don't know if Jamaica will allow you to claim dual citizenship.

It depends on the law of Jamaica.

You probably are a dual citizen.
