I usually take it from the freezer to the fridge the day before and just have it thaw in there. But if you are in a hurry...

Take the salmon out of the package and put in in a ziplock bag MAKE SURE IT'S AIR TIGHT!!!!!

Then place the bagged salmon in a bowl of water at room temperature. Keep running tap water over the bag. Make sure it's at a moderate temperature... if its too hot it will start to cook the salmon and that's not good! (because you want it to be able to cook evenly when you are ready) & Make sure its not too cold or that won't help you!

Good Luck! ;-)

How To Thaw Frozen Salmon

Yes the fridge is the way to defrost anything but if you're going to cook it right when it's ply-able then what I do is to place it in plastic in a cold water bath, changing the water every 15 minutes till it's thawed which is about two times. There isn't enough mass in the Salmon to warrant fridge time, by the time it hits anywhere close to going south on you it's cooking time

Steve is right. Place your salmon in a cool water bath. This is the fastest and it doesn't have to be in the frig. you can do an over night thaw the same way. Drain on paper town or in a sieve. If you are planning on marinating it, take your frozen fish the day before add your seasoning and allow to thaw in the frig over night.

What's the best way to thaw salmon?

Salmon(or any fish) should always be bought unfrozen whenever possible. Otherwise, I would thaw in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf for a day or two before.

The refrigerator is the safest bet for thawing fish (or any kind of meat).

If left outside of fridge, bacteria can grow (because it grows in warm temps). If you need a fast thawing, you can use the defrost setting on your microwave. I agree though that this might start cooking your salmon and make it loose color&flavor.

Well, what I usually do is if I have all day, I just put in the sink in the container it was frozen in, and let it sit there till ready to use. If I don't have as much time, I will usually put it in a zip lock bag, and submerge in lukewarm water till it starts to soften, then transfer to cold water for a little bit.

Only in the fridge! All meats, poultry, seafood, etc needs to thaw in the fridge--much less chance of bacteria growth!! ;-)
