I recommend a Chestnut or a shade of Burgundy. This is because of your skin color.
You do not want to do anything that is too drastic. Any shade of Blonde is out. It will whit you out and have you looking like a ghost. Check out the deep colors first. I guarantee you will not be disappointed! Seek help from your local hair care professional too. Call the Beauty Shop or Design Studio.

young and 54 yrs? sort of a contradiction there ain't it? I am just playing. LOL
I think that you should go with shades of brown. Not coppery brown but more like reddish brown. It would look beautiful on your skin especially during summer... Also you can always ask your hairstylist for her/his opinion

If you're a man - keep it gray -- salt & pepper color is very becoming.
If you're a woman - i would use a soft brown -- make sure it's not brassy -- clairol has a website that can help you check it out.
