I agree with the new law. if your caught using your handset while driving you should be punished.
how ever i dont agree with the fact, that if you pull over to use your phone you can still be penalised for having your engine running.
So if you have the common sense to pull over to use your phone, a police officer can still fine you.
Thats not fair!, especially when you have shown common sense in the first place.

I can see your point but you are still, technically, in control of the car. Should the law differentiate between someone on the phone who is stationary at the side of the road, but in first gear and holding the clutch, without the handbrake on? His lack of attention could cause him to stall the call or jump forward. The law sees this as comparable with someone who is in neutral with the handbrake on; however, the engine is still running. I agree that there is some unfairness between the two cases but then isn't the law an *** sometimes?

possibly they're going to ban speaking to the different occupants in the motor vehicle next! and then listening to the radio! it particularly is diverse for cops who're doing the activity the tax payers pay for. you would be extraordinarily bored stiff if there grew to become right into a delay responding to a straight away call for information, by technique of you, because of the fact the police officer could no longer locate someplace secure to pull over to take the call. Many police vehicles have an prolonged narrow stalk on the dashboard, on the factor of the steerage wheel and a microphone in the motor vehicle so as that the officer can swap on the motor vehicle radio without removing the two of his arms from the steerage wheel, in user-friendly terms a finger or 2.

The law stinks! Try finding a place to pull over in a semi with a 52' trailer in 6 lanes of traffic going into LA during rush hour and your dispatcher calls to give you unload info. I'll take my chances and pay the fine if caught.

Yes but it makes sense. I drive a bus so if I do it and get caught it is a maximum £2500 fine for me. I switch my phone off now when driving. The damn things are intrusive anyway. I don't mind leaving passengers but I wouldn't want to flatten any! ;-)

Just switch your engine off - just think of it as doing your bit for the environment!

Never mind that. Apparently the police can't enforce the new child booster seat regulations because they are not allowed to measure children!

Nice one Tony...you're a genius mate.
