Spare the rod and spoil the child. If you have a chimney get them practising on that too!

definitely not my 6 year old son needs to tidy the living room before he goes to bed and as soon as my little girl gets the hang of helping her brother she will be doing it to i believe there is nothing wrong with teaching your children its important to clean up after themselves. I don't know about you but me and my husband cant relax if we still have toys lying around once there in bed. also as they grow up introduce alittle more ie polishing, hoovering its a good way to give them abit of independence and feel like they can help you around the house. That's my plan anyway.

I don't think your being strict at all. My 3 year old is made to pick up her toys when she is finished. Its simply teaching them to respect things that's all.

god no... they need to learn..it is no good never expecting them to do anything, then introducing rules later and wondering why they wont do as they are told, i firmly believe that you should start early with enforcing standards and rules in your home and kids grow to accept them, i have always made mine clear up their toys and help with little jobs like setting the table and dusting, its the family home, family mess and the family all clear it up..you are doing the right thing in my opinion
